INTRODUCTION
Our Internal Data team is on a mission to power decisions and applications across MongoDB, oriented around the business areas of GTM, Product & Technology, Finance and HR. With this role, we are focusing on delivery of scalable, insightful, and impactful data products for our Product and Technology (P&T) teams - the org that builds MongoDB products for our external customers. These products drive smarter decisions, automate workflows, enable AI agents and deliver actionable insights that accelerate growth. If shaping the future of data-as-a-product excites you, then this opportunity is for you. As a Senior Data Product Manager on our Data team — which includes Data Pipeline/Platform Engineering, Data Architecture, and Data Governance — you will lead efforts to build, enhance, and scale the data products MongoDB employees use every day across a growing, high-impact company. You’ll deliver data products like data pipelines, datasets, reports/dashboards, APIs, ML models, playbooks, and frameworks while enhancing more traditional data management tools/services to power both AI and BI. These data products form the backbone of our internal data ecosystem and are instrumental in empowering teams to achieve their KPIs and innovate faster. In this role you will also have the opportunity to drive the vision and strategy for internal data as a product, with a focus on telemetry and product adoption/engagement/churn signals. By developing tools and systems that provide deep insights into how customers use or don’t use MongoDB’s products, you will empower teams to understand customer behaviors and improve the end-user experience. The goal is to enable data-driven decisions that enhance product design, drive customer value, and fuel innovation across the MongoDB portfolio. This role can be based out of our Palo Alto, San Francisco, or New York City office or remotely in the East Coast region.
Responsibilities
Lead Product Strategy and Ownership
- Define product vision, strategy, and roadmap for MongoDB’s Data teams and products
- Evangelize the importance of data-as-a-product by creating repeatable and scalable data solutions tailored to business needs
- Balance quick wins for immediate needs with longer-term innovation aligned with strategic goals, particularly integrating modern data frameworks such as lakehouses and medallion data architecture (bronze, silver, gold sets)
Partner with Product and Technology (P& T) Teams
- Collaborate deeply with P&T teams to ensure data products address their unique challenges and workflows
- Work closely with diverse personas — analysts, engineers, P&T teams, and senior leadership — to capture detailed business processes, user stories, and pain points
- Serve as a trusted partner and advocate for P&T stakeholders by prioritizing solutions that have direct, measurable business impact, as well as driving the “art of the possible”
Performance and Market Analysis
- Define metrics and KPIs to measure success and iterate on continuous improvement
- Track innovation and emerging trends in modern data platforms, scalable data engineering, and advanced analytics tooling, integrating these insights into the roadmap to maintain cutting-edge capabilities
Stakeholder Enablement
- Build user-friendly documentation, guides, and onboarding materials for data products to drive adoption and ensure ongoing literacy in using product features effectively
- Partner with training teams and change management functions to ensure teams successfully integrate new data tools and features into their workflows
Adoption and Evangelization
- Announce new product features, datasets, and tools with tailored product marketing strategies to maximize awareness and adoption across MongoDB teams
- Champion the value of data products in solving business questions; lead re-launch efforts as necessary to reinvigorate flagging adoption and spotlight transformative benefits
Agile Product Management
- Own and drive agile processes, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, to ensure timely, high-quality product delivery
- Balance innovation with tackling tech debt while delivering new features, particularly focusing on datasets, pipelines, frameworks, and tools for user enablement
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Proven Data Product Manager & Domain Expertise
- 5+ years of hands-on product management experience, with at least two years focused on data products or platforms at a modern, fast-paced, high-growth company
- Experience with stakeholders in advanced engineering organizations is critical; strong understanding of software development lifecycle processes
Technical Strength & Understanding of Modern Data Architecture
- Strong technical foundation in data engineering, analytics, and data products
- Deep familiarity with modern data platforms, scalable architecture (e.g., lakehouses, medallion data), and tools that operationalize insights at enterprise scale.
Strategic and Adaptable Mindset
- Proven ability to prioritize roadmaps in line with P&T operational needs and long-term goals, driving innovation while managing trade-offs with scope, resources, and timelines
- Adaptable and resourceful problem-solver who tackles challenges independently and escalates only when absolutely necessary
Growth-Focused
- Expertise in identifying measurable outcomes, tracking success metrics, and iteratively improving product impact
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment where continuous improvement and high-quality delivery are paramount

Align your portfolio to MongoDB's data ecosystem
MongoDB's Data Contributor roles center on document-oriented data modeling, Atlas pipelines, and aggregation frameworks. Before applying, build or highlight projects that demonstrate hands-on experience with these specific tools, not just generic SQL or relational database work.
Confirm E-3 eligibility before targeting MongoDB
If you hold Australian citizenship, the E-3 visa is often a faster path than H-1B at companies like MongoDB. Unlike H-1B, E-3 has no lottery and can be filed year-round, so timing your application independently of the April cap season gives you real flexibility.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Data Contributor roles at MongoDB
MongoDB lists Data Contributor openings across multiple teams and seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for MongoDB roles that are open to visa sponsorship so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare your F-1 OPT paperwork before interviewing
If you're on F-1 OPT, your work authorization window is fixed. Have your EAD card, I-20, and OPT approval notice ready before you receive an offer. MongoDB's HR team will need these to onboard you within your authorized period, and delays on your end can stall the process.
Understand when PERM applies to your role
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, MongoDB must run a PERM labor certification through DOL to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available. This process typically takes 12 to 18 months, so it's worth raising long-term sponsorship intentions early in your negotiation.

Find Data Contributor at MongoDB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Data Contributors?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Data Contributor roles. Because H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, your employer must submit a registration in March for an October 1 start date. MongoDB's recruiting team initiates the H-1B petition process after an offer is accepted, and USCIS must approve the petition before you can begin work.
How do I apply for Data Contributor jobs at MongoDB?
Applications go through MongoDB's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. Roles are posted across engineering, data platform, and developer experience teams. To find positions already confirmed for visa sponsorship, browse MongoDB's listings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles open to international candidates.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Data Contributor roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B for most international hires in technical roles. Australian citizens frequently use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable status. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visas. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students mid-program, and Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is available for longer-term employees.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for Data Contributor positions?
MongoDB's Data Contributor roles typically require experience with document databases, schema design, and data pipeline tooling, often with direct exposure to MongoDB Atlas or similar cloud-native platforms. Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or Go is commonly expected. Roles at more senior levels may require experience with distributed systems, query optimization, or large-scale data architecture in production environments.
How do I plan my timeline when targeting a Data Contributor role at MongoDB on a work visa?
Timeline depends on your visa type. E-3 and TN petitions can be processed relatively quickly, often within weeks of an offer. H-1B requires cap registration in March with an October start date, so plan at least six months ahead if you're not already in H-1B status. F-1 OPT candidates should confirm their remaining authorized period covers the full onboarding window before accepting an offer.
