Frame your leadership credentials for specialty occupation
Development Manager roles require demonstrating that the position demands a degree in a specific technical field, not just general management. Prepare documentation showing your engineering background directly informs how you scope, architect decisions, and lead technical teams at MongoDB's scale.
Target MongoDB's engineering-adjacent business units first
MongoDB hires Development Managers across Atlas, Enterprise Advanced, and developer tooling. Roles tied to active product lines move faster through headcount approval. Identify which teams are in active hiring cycles before applying to avoid stalled requisitions that delay sponsorship conversations.
Ask about LCA filing timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B or E-3 petition can proceed. Confirm with MongoDB's recruiting team where that process sits in their onboarding timeline so your start date isn't set before certification is complete.
Align your resume with MongoDB's internal promotion language
MongoDB's job postings for Development Managers consistently reference cross-functional collaboration, engineering velocity metrics, and team growth. Mirror that framing in your application materials so your international background doesn't read as misaligned with their specific expectations for this level.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Development Manager roles at MongoDB
MongoDB posts Development Manager openings across multiple job boards at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for sponsored roles at MongoDB so you're applying to live requisitions where visa support is already confirmed, not inferring it from a generic posting.
Understand how E-3 and H-1B timelines differ before your offer stage
If you hold Australian citizenship, E-3 processing at a consulate typically runs two to four weeks with no lottery. H-1B registration opens once annually in March, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. Knowing which visa applies to you shapes how you negotiate a start date with MongoDB's hiring team.

Find Development Manager at MongoDB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, and Development Manager roles at MongoDB generally meet that standard given the technical depth required. Your employer files the petition with USCIS after securing a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Because H-1B is cap-subject, timing your application around the annual registration window in March matters.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at MongoDB?
Applications go through MongoDB's careers portal at mongodb.com/careers. For sponsored roles specifically, Migrate Mate filters MongoDB's open Development Manager positions by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. Tailor your application to emphasize technical leadership experience relevant to MongoDB's product areas, such as Atlas or developer tools, and be prepared for a multi-stage interview process that typically includes system design and cross-functional leadership scenarios.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Development Manager roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Development Manager positions. H-1B is the most common path for candidates from most countries. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which has no lottery and shorter processing times. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for TN status. F-1 OPT and CPT apply to students transitioning from academia into industry roles.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for a sponsored Development Manager role?
MongoDB typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field. Beyond credentials, they expect demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, shipping production software, and operating in fast-moving product organizations. For visa purposes, the technical degree is important because it supports the specialty occupation classification required for H-1B and E-3 petitions. Candidates with only general management backgrounds and no engineering foundation are harder to sponsor.
How do I think about timelines when pursuing a Development Manager role at MongoDB with visa sponsorship?
Timeline depends heavily on which visa applies to you. E-3 and TN processing can move quickly, often within weeks of an offer. H-1B is capped, so if you need that route and aren't already in H-1B status, you'd need to enter the lottery in March for an October start. F-1 OPT allows immediate employment authorization while a petition is pending. Factor these windows into your offer negotiations so your target start date aligns with what USCIS and DOL timelines realistically allow.
