Who We Are
The Internal Data team powers decisions and applications across MongoDB, organized around four core business areas: CustomerGTM, Product & Technology, Finance, and EmployeeHR. We build and scale the data products MongoDB employees rely on every day, including data pipelines, datasets, dashboards, APIs, ML models, and frameworks that form the backbone of our internal data ecosystem. Our work directly enables teams to hit their KPIs, automate workflows, and build the AI and BI capabilities that drive the business forward.
We treat data as a product. That means applying the same rigor, user focus, and outcome orientation to internal data that MongoDB brings to its external platform. As the company continues to grow, the scope and stakes of that work grow with it.
This role is focused on our Finance domain, where data products support smarter planning, forecasting, spend efficiency, and financial performance analysis. If you want to build data products that matter at scale, this is the role for you.
This role can be based out of one of our NYC, Austin, Palo Alto, or San Francisco office locations or remotely in the United States.
In this role you will own Finance-focused data products end to end, partnering with cross-functional teams to help shape product strategy, set priorities, define requirements, and drive delivery.
You will build and maintain pipelines, datasets, dashboards, APIs, and frameworks that Finance teams rely on daily for planning, forecasting, and performance analysis, while also contributing to the data management tools and services that power AI and BI across the company.
A significant part of the work is understanding your stakeholders. You will spend time with Finance teams learning their workflows, translating their needs into clear requirements and user stories, and building relationships across Finance, engineering, and technical counterparts.
You will keep the voice of the user central in prioritization and discovery, help shape the roadmap for Finance-focused data products, and push for the right solutions even when the ask is not fully formed.
You will own your product backlog, break complex problems into well-scoped increments, manage dependencies across technical teams, and support agile delivery from sprint planning through release. You will make thoughtful tradeoff decisions across business impact, technical feasibility, and timelines, while balancing new feature delivery with long-term platform health.
You will define success metrics and track adoption, usability, and business value. You will also drive adoption through documentation, onboarding, rollouts, and change management.
When issues arise, you will partner with engineering and Finance teams to drive resolution and capture what can be learned for next time.
What We're Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of product management experience with a focus on data products, platforms, analytics, or internal business systems, including at least one year at a modern, high-growth company
- Direct experience partnering with Finance stakeholders on planning, forecasting, or reporting workflows
- Solid foundation in data, analytics, and technical product management, with the ability to work effectively with engineering on technical details while staying focused on user value and business outcomes
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and scalable architecture concepts such as lakehouse or medallion models
- Experience working with sensitive financial data, including SOX-related processes, with sound judgment on balancing controls with execution speed
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to give stakeholders clear visibility into product direction, progress, and risk
- Comfortable operating with guidance from senior product and data leaders while independently owning your area and driving work forward with a high degree of accountability

Align your portfolio to MongoDB's product surface
MongoDB hires Product Engineers who can work across Atlas, Compass, and the Aggregation Framework. Showcase projects involving distributed systems, developer tooling, or document-model data architecture, vague full-stack experience is unlikely to stand out.
Confirm your visa category before applying
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT, but each has different lead times. If your OPT expires within six months of a target start date, flag this early so the team can sequence the H-1B cap filing or alternative petition correctly.
Request LCA details during offer negotiation
MongoDB must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa petition is submitted. Ask your recruiter which prevailing wage level the role is benchmarked to, since this determines your certified salary floor and affects offer flexibility.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Product Engineer roles
MongoDB's Product Engineer listings shift frequently across Atlas, cloud integrations, and developer experience teams. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles filtered by visa type so you're applying to positions actively open to international candidates.
Prepare a specialty occupation case for your specific role
USCIS scrutinizes software roles for specialty occupation eligibility. For a Product Engineer at MongoDB, connect your computer science or software engineering degree directly to the technical scope of the role, including distributed database concepts or SDK development experience.
Time your application around MongoDB's hiring cycles
MongoDB's engineering headcount tends to grow around Q1 and post-performance-review cycles. Targeting applications in January through March increases your odds of landing an offer before the April 1 H-1B registration window opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineer roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery each April and files petitions for selected candidates with an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, MongoDB can employ you while the petition is pending, provided your OPT remains valid through the cap-gap period.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at MongoDB?
Apply directly through MongoDB's careers page or use Migrate Mate to filter Product Engineer openings by visa type. MongoDB's engineering interviews typically include a systems design round and coding assessments focused on data modeling or query optimization. Tailoring your application to a specific product area, such as Atlas or the Developer Data Platform, improves your chances of reaching the technical screen.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Product Engineer roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN visa, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Product Engineer positions. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows faster processing. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status. Engineers already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT can start work while a longer-term petition is filed.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for Product Engineer roles?
MongoDB's Product Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Practical experience with distributed systems, database internals, or developer-facing APIs carries significant weight. Roles tied to Atlas or the query engine often expect familiarity with cloud infrastructure, performance optimization, or SDK design across multiple programming languages.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a MongoDB Product Engineer role?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, secure your offer before early March so MongoDB can include you in the April 1 registration window. E-3 visa and TN petitions move faster and aren't lottery-dependent, often completing within four to eight weeks. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions and can reduce adjudication to roughly 15 business days once USCIS accepts the filing.
