INTRODUCTION
We are looking for an experienced Senior or Staff Engineer for our SRE, InfraSec team, to guide the security of our cloud-based infrastructure. As a Staff SRE, you will be very hands-on technically while also mentoring a small team of SREs. The InfraSec team collaborates closely with other engineering teams to ensure that our infrastructure adheres to the highest security standards. They build essential security infrastructure and implement controls that reinforce the platform’s security posture. This is an SRE team, which means you can expect a highly hands-on approach, tackling the technical challenges of implementing large scale solutions. This team is deeply involved in the technical aspects of security and the nuances of its actual implementation. This role can sit in our Austin, Seattle or San Francisco offices on a hybrid basis, or it can be fully remote while working from a location based in either Eastern or Central time zones.
Responsibilities
-
Cloud Security Design and Implementation: Help lead the design and deployment of security solutions for cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), including network and compute security, identity management, and cloud security posture management (CSPM)
-
Automation and Monitoring: Build automated solutions for real-time security monitoring, logging, and alerting in cloud environments. Leverage native cloud services and third-party tools for runtime security monitoring and anomaly detection
-
Security Tooling: Evaluate, implement, and manage cloud-native security tools and platforms for endpoint security, identity management (IAM), and CSPM
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
-
Experience: 6+ years of experience in SRE, infrastructure engineering or similar role, with a strong focus on security work, with ideally 2+ years in a senior or staff engineering role
-
Security Mindset: A comprehensive understanding of all facets of cloud environment security, spanning from foundational OS networking layers to cloud provider configurations. Proven experience in leading projects within security-focused areas, such as runtime scanning, security observability, CSPM, and more
-
Cloud Expertise: Strong experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP), including expertise in IAM, VPC networking, security groups, and cloud security tools (e.g., GuardDuty, Security Hub, CloudTrail)
-
Coding/Automation: Proficiency in at least one programming language (we use Golang but are language agnostic when it comes to hiring) and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) to automate security configurations and processes
-
Linux and Networking: Understanding of the underlying Linux and networking concepts, including low-level fundamentals, and how they work together in complex systems
-
Communication and Leadership Skills: Strong ability to explain complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical teams. Ability to lead a small technical team and ensure success both meeting the team goals as well as personal growth for all team members

Align your skills with MongoDB's cloud stack
MongoDB Atlas runs across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Before applying, make sure your resume reflects hands-on experience with at least one of these providers, plus infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, which appear consistently in MongoDB's Cloud Engineer job postings.
Verify your LCA before your start date
Once MongoDB files your Labor Condition Application with DOL, confirm the certified LCA reflects your actual work location. Cloud Engineers often work in hybrid arrangements across multiple offices, and an LCA tied to the wrong worksite can cause compliance issues at the USCIS stage.
Prepare a specialty occupation case early
Cloud Engineer roles can attract USCIS Requests for Evidence questioning whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Pull MongoDB's public LCA disclosure data to see how prior filings described the role's degree requirements, and mirror that framing in your own petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter MongoDB Cloud Engineer openings
MongoDB posts Cloud Engineer roles across multiple locations and seniority levels at once. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for MongoDB openings that list visa sponsorship, so you're applying to active roles rather than expired listings or positions the team has already closed internally.
Confirm your visa pathway before accepting an offer
MongoDB sponsors several visa categories for Cloud Engineers, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Before signing, confirm with their immigration team which category applies to you, since E-3 and TN processing is faster than H-1B and affects how quickly you can legally start.

Find Cloud Engineer at MongoDB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Engineers?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Engineer roles. They've consistently filed H-1B petitions for technical positions across their cloud infrastructure and platform engineering teams. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your employer will need to submit a registration during the USCIS lottery window in March, with work authorization beginning October 1 if selected.
How do I apply for Cloud Engineer jobs at MongoDB?
Apply directly through MongoDB's careers site, targeting roles that match your cloud platform experience, whether that's Atlas infrastructure, site reliability, or developer tooling. You can also browse MongoDB's active Cloud Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from employers with confirmed sponsorship track records in this function.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Cloud Engineer roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Cloud Engineers. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which has no lottery and faster processing. Canadian and Mexican nationals on TN status can start faster still. For longer-term authorization, MongoDB's PERM-based Green Card process is available for qualifying roles.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for Cloud Engineer roles?
Most Cloud Engineer postings at MongoDB require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, plus hands-on experience with distributed systems and at least one major cloud provider. Senior roles emphasize Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability tooling. USCIS requires that the degree field directly relate to the role, so a general business degree is unlikely to support a specialty occupation petition for this position.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Cloud Engineer offer at MongoDB?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and TN can be processed in a few weeks, often at the consulate. H-1B standard processing runs three to five months from filing, with USCIS premium processing cutting that to 15 business days for an additional fee. F-1 OPT allows you to start immediately while the H-1B petition is pending, provided your OPT authorization covers the start date.
