Verify Your Oncology Credentials Early
ECFMG certification and state medical licensure can take months to finalize. Start both processes well before applying, since OneOncology's affiliated practices require active licensure in the state where you'll practice before a visa petition can proceed.
Target OneOncology's Affiliated Practice Locations Strategically
OneOncology operates through a network of community oncology practices, not a single hospital system. Research which affiliated practices have active openings in your subspecialty, since sponsorship is initiated at the practice level, not corporate headquarters.
Understand the TN Visa Option If You're Canadian or Mexican
Oncology qualifies as a specialty occupation under the TN category for Canadian and Mexican physicians. Unlike the H-1B, TN status doesn't require USCIS approval before you start, which can significantly compress your timeline from offer to first day.
Ask Recruiters Specifically About Cap-Exempt Filing
OneOncology's affiliated practices often work with nonprofits or hospital systems that qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. Confirm during the offer stage whether your practice site can file outside the annual lottery, which removes the April registration deadline from your timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Open Oncologist Roles Across the Network
OneOncology's affiliate practices post openings independently, making it easy to miss positions. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Oncologist roles at OneOncology that explicitly offer visa sponsorship, so you're applying where a pathway is already confirmed.
Negotiate Start Date Around USCIS Processing Windows
H-1B petitions have a mandatory October 1 start date for cap-subject filings. Build that into your contract negotiation with OneOncology so your credentialing, onboarding, and petition timeline align, and request premium processing to reduce USCIS adjudication time to 15 business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does OneOncology sponsor H-1B visas for Oncologists?
Yes, OneOncology sponsors H-1B visas for Oncologist roles. Sponsorship is initiated through the affiliated practice where you'll work, not centrally through OneOncology's corporate office, so the process and timeline can vary by location. Some practice sites may qualify as cap-exempt employers, which allows filing outside the annual H-1B lottery. Confirm this directly with the recruiter during the offer stage.
How do I apply for Oncologist jobs at OneOncology?
OneOncology posts Oncologist openings through its affiliated practices, which means roles are listed across multiple channels. The most direct approach is to search OneOncology by name on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions with confirmed visa sponsorship. From there, applications typically go through a recruiter who coordinates between you and the affiliated practice's hiring team.
Which visa types are commonly used for Oncologist roles at OneOncology?
The H-1B is the most common pathway for international oncologists at OneOncology, covering physicians from countries without a dedicated bilateral visa treaty with the U.S. Canadian and Mexican oncologists can use the TN visa, which is faster to obtain. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for physicians completing U.S.-based training, though those pathways are typically used during residency or fellowship, not attending-level employment.
What qualifications does OneOncology expect for Oncologist positions?
OneOncology's affiliated practices require board certification or board eligibility in medical oncology, hematology, or a relevant subspecialty, along with ECFMG certification for international medical graduates. Active state licensure in the practice's state is required before you can start. Fellowship training from an ACGME-accredited program is standard. Some practices prioritize subspecialty expertise, such as thoracic, breast, or GI oncology, depending on local patient volume and existing physician mix.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Oncologist at OneOncology?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type and filing route. A cap-subject H-1B requires registering in the March lottery, with an earliest start date of October 1, meaning the full process can take six to twelve months from offer to day one. Cap-exempt filings through qualifying practice sites can move faster, often two to four months. TN visas for Canadian physicians can be obtained at the border in days, once the offer letter and credentials are in order.
