Frame Your PLC Experience for Electrical Testing
Shermco's Controls Engineer roles center on power systems testing and commissioning, not traditional manufacturing automation. Tailor your resume to highlight PLC programming, SCADA integration, and field instrumentation experience in industrial or infrastructure environments before you apply.
Verify Your Degree Aligns with TN Requirements
TN status for Controls Engineers requires a qualifying engineering degree recognized under the USMCA. If your transcript lists a non-standard program title, gather documentation from your institution confirming the degree is in electrical or controls engineering before your employer files.
Target Shermco's Regional Field Offices Directly
Shermco operates service centers across multiple states, and Controls Engineer openings are distributed regionally, not just at headquarters. Applying to location-specific postings improves your odds because hiring managers at field offices often have more direct influence over sponsorship decisions than centralized HR.
Clarify Sponsorship Type Early in the Process
Shermco sponsors both temporary work visas and permanent residence pathways. In your first recruiter conversation, ask specifically whether the role is approved for the visa category you need. This prevents late-stage surprises when DOL or USCIS filing timelines don't match your current status expiry.
Start PERM Timing Conversations Before Your OPT Ends
If you're targeting an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card through Shermco, PERM recruitment and filing can take 12 to 18 months before a petition even reaches USCIS. Raise the permanent residence pathway in your offer negotiation so both you and the employer have aligned expectations on timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Positions Efficiently
Controls Engineer roles at Shermco span multiple regions and open irregularly. Use Migrate Mate to filter current openings by visa type so you're only seeing positions where your sponsorship category is a confirmed option, saving time on applications unlikely to move forward.

Find Controls Engineer at Shermco Industries JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Shermco Industries sponsor H-1B visas for Controls Engineers?
Shermco Industries' sponsorship activity for Controls Engineers is concentrated in categories like F-1 OPT, TN, and permanent residence pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. H-1B sponsorship is not prominently featured in their recent hiring pattern for this role. If H-1B is your required category, clarify directly with the recruiter before advancing through the interview process, as sponsorship availability can vary by position and location.
How do I apply for Controls Engineer jobs at Shermco Industries?
Apply through Shermco's careers portal, which lists openings by region and service center. Tailor your application to the specific location and project type listed in the posting. Migrate Mate is a practical starting point to browse current Controls Engineer openings at Shermco filtered by the visa categories you qualify for, so you can prioritize roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Which visa types does Shermco Industries commonly use for Controls Engineer roles?
For Controls Engineers, Shermco has demonstrated support for F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, J-1 for certain training arrangements, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree, and where you are in your career stage.
What qualifications does Shermco Industries expect for Controls Engineer positions?
Shermco's Controls Engineer roles focus on power systems, switchgear testing, and electrical infrastructure commissioning. Expect requirements around PLC and SCADA proficiency, hands-on field commissioning experience, and a degree in electrical or controls engineering. Relevant certifications such as NETA or PE licensure can strengthen your application, particularly for senior-level openings in Shermco's testing and maintenance service lines.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a Controls Engineer at Shermco?
Timeline depends heavily on visa category. TN status can often be processed at the border or port of entry for Canadian nationals with supporting documents, making it the fastest path. F-1 OPT is employer-activated and generally moves quickly once USCIS has issued your EAD. Permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3 involves DOL's PERM process, which adds 12 to 24 months before a USCIS petition can be filed, so planning well ahead of any status deadline is critical.
