ABOUT THE GRAPHIC DESIGN PROGRAM AT AUBURN
Housed within the School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD) in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC), the Graphic Design (GDES) Program at Auburn University prepares students to practice visual communication in a competitive global environment. Auburn’s nationally regarded B.F.A. in Graphic Design is NASAD accredited, and the curriculum emphasizes a systemic approach to design that enables students to become versatile designers, art directors and economically viable professionals.
GDES students receive hands-on instruction in a professional studio environment that fosters a strong sense of community among students and faculty. Students establish a foundation in drawing, 2D/3D design, and typography in lower-level coursework. Foundational skills are then applied and extended in upper-level coursework experiences that include interactive design, user experience design, strategic branding, publication design, packaging, illustration, and image-making.
The GDES program introduces students to the professional design community by hosting exhibitions, symposia, and guest lectures by industry leaders.

Match your credentials to USMCA professions
Auburn University's TN-eligible roles must fall under the USMCA professions list. Before applying, cross-reference your degree and job title against that list using O*NET to confirm your occupation qualifies. A mismatch at the border means denial with no recourse.
Target research and STEM department postings
Auburn's engineering, agriculture, computer science, and life sciences departments hire the most TN-eligible professionals. Filter your job search to these colleges and research centers, where hiring managers are most familiar with TN admission requirements and timelines for international hires.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Auburn University's HR team issues the offer letter you'll present at the port of entry or consulate. Ask for it to explicitly state your job title, USMCA profession category, qualifying degree requirement, and employment start date to avoid officer questions at the border.
Verify your degree equivalency before the interview
TN admission requires a degree in a field directly related to the role. Auburn's international faculty hiring often involves three-year degrees from Canadian or Mexican institutions. Have a credential evaluation completed in advance so you can document equivalency if a border officer raises the question.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN employers
Searching broadly for academic jobs wastes time if the department doesn't support TN hires. Migrate Mate filters roles at Auburn University and similar institutions by visa type, so you can focus your applications on positions where TN admission has a documented hiring history.
Prepare for status duration tied to your contract
TN status at Auburn is granted in increments matching your employment contract, up to three years per entry. If your offer letter covers a one-year appointment, your TN reflects that. Secure a multi-year contract or renewal letter before your status expires to avoid gaps in work authorization.
Auburn University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Auburn University sponsor TN visas?
Auburn University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals hired into qualifying USMCA profession roles. The university issues an offer letter documenting the position and degree requirement, which the candidate presents at the border or U.S. consulate. Auburn does not file a petition with USCIS for TN, as TN is a treaty-based admission category, not an employer petition process.
Which departments at Auburn University most commonly hire TN professionals?
Engineering, computer science, agriculture, biological sciences, and mathematics are among the departments at Auburn that most frequently hire TN-eligible professionals. Research faculty, postdoctoral associates, systems engineers, and scientific specialists make up a significant share of TN hires, as these roles align directly with the USMCA professions list and require the specific degree credentials TN demands.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from Auburn University?
Once Auburn University extends an offer, coordinate with the Office of International Education or HR to obtain your official offer letter. The letter must confirm your job title, USMCA profession category, salary, and start date. Canadians present this letter at a port of entry for same-day admission. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate before traveling.
How long does TN admission take for an Auburn University hire?
Canadian nationals can receive TN admission at the border the same day they apply, assuming documentation is complete. Mexican nationals must schedule a consulate appointment, which adds weeks depending on post availability. Auburn's HR team typically takes one to two weeks to prepare the offer letter once the position is confirmed, so factor that into your start date planning.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Auburn University?
Migrate Mate lists positions at Auburn University filtered by visa type, including TN-eligible roles, so you can identify openings without manually screening hundreds of postings. You can also search Auburn's careers portal directly and filter by department. Focus on faculty, research, and technical roles, as those align most consistently with the USMCA professions list required for TN admission.
How does TN visa admission work at Auburn University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Auburn University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
