Match your credentials to USMCA professions
Before applying, confirm your degree and job title appear on the USMCA professions list. Augsburg hires in education and research, so roles like scientific technician, university professor, or computer systems analyst are common fits. A mismatched credential is the fastest way to a border rejection.
Target departments with recurring academic hiring
Augsburg's TN hires tend to cluster in faculty, research, and student services functions. Focus your applications on departments that post visiting professor, lecturer, or research associate roles, where TN-eligible job titles and degree requirements align most naturally with USMCA profession definitions.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Augsburg's HR team issues the support letter you'll present at the border or consulate. Ask explicitly for a letter that states your job title, USMCA profession category, degree requirement, and employment start date. Vague letters cause delays or denials at the port of entry.
Verify your wage against OFLC Wage Search
Although TN doesn't require a formal prevailing wage filing, border officers can question whether compensation matches the role. Cross-check your offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search before your appointment so you can speak confidently to wage adequacy if asked.
Find Augsburg TN openings through Migrate Mate
Search Augsburg University's TN-compatible listings on Migrate Mate, which filters jobs by visa type and employer sponsorship history. This saves time compared to scanning general job boards that don't distinguish between employers willing to issue TN support letters and those that won't.
Prepare your degree documents for border review
CBP officers at the port of entry will review your original degree certificates, transcripts, and Augsburg's offer letter on the spot. Bring certified English translations if your credentials are in another language, and carry copies in case originals are retained during processing.
Augsburg University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Augsburg University sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Augsburg University supports TN admission by issuing offer letters for qualifying Canadian and Mexican professionals. There's no USCIS petition involved. You present the offer letter along with your credentials at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles must fall under the USMCA professions list and require a relevant bachelor's degree or higher.
Which roles at Augsburg University typically qualify for TN status?
Roles in faculty instruction, academic research, and student support services are the most common TN-eligible positions at Augsburg. Job titles like lecturer, research associate, and computer systems analyst align with USMCA profession categories. Administrative or general staff roles that don't require a specific degree in a listed profession won't qualify.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from Augsburg University?
Once Augsburg issues your offer letter, Canadians proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with the letter, degree credentials, and proof of Canadian citizenship. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate first. USCIS provides the full requirements checklist for both pathways.
How long does TN admission at Augsburg University typically take?
Canadians who apply at the border can receive TN admission the same day if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals applying for a consular TN visa typically wait several weeks for an appointment and adjudication. Initial TN status is granted for up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely as long as your Augsburg employment continues.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Augsburg University?
Check Augsburg University's official careers page for current openings, and filter by department to find faculty and research roles. Migrate Mate also surfaces TN-compatible listings at universities like Augsburg, letting you search by visa type so you spend time only on employers prepared to issue TN support letters.
How does TN visa admission work at Augsburg University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Augsburg University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate.
