Align your credentials to USMCA occupations
TN admission is limited to specific USMCA profession categories. Before applying to Boston University, map your degree and job title exactly to the USMCA list. Roles like systems analyst, engineer, or scientific technician have precise credential requirements that Boston University's HR team will verify during offer negotiations.
Target departments with recurring specialist needs
Boston University's medical campus, engineering school, and research centers hire TN professionals most consistently. Focus your search on faculty support, clinical research, and IT infrastructure roles where specialized credentials are required and the university has established patterns of supporting TN admission for qualified candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active TN hiring
Searching broadly across Boston University's job board wastes time on roles that don't qualify for TN. Migrate Mate filters positions by TN-eligible occupation categories at Boston University, so you can apply directly to roles where the institution already supports TN candidates and your credentials are likely to match.
Request a detailed offer letter covering TN requirements
Boston University's offer letter is your primary document at the border or consulate. Confirm it specifies your USMCA profession category, your degree requirement, your employment duration, and your wage. A vague letter causes delays or denials at the port of entry, regardless of how strong your qualifications are.
Prepare your credential package before interviews
Canadian and Mexican applicants need original degree transcripts, professional licenses where required, and the offer letter ready before approaching the port of entry or consulate. Boston University can't correct credential gaps after admission is refused, so resolve any academic equivalency questions before your final interview stage.
Know the difference between Canadian and Mexican TN entry
Canadian nationals present TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry without advance visa processing. Mexican nationals must obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate first. Boston University's HR team issues the same support letter for both, but your timeline and preparation steps differ significantly depending on your nationality.
Boston University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston University sponsor TN visas?
Boston University supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing the required offer letter. There is no employer petition involved. The university confirms your role meets a USMCA profession category and provides documentation you present at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. TN-eligible roles appear across its research, technology, and academic departments.
Which departments at Boston University typically hire TN professionals?
Boston University's medical campus, College of Engineering, and central IT and research administration functions are the most consistent sources of TN-eligible openings. Roles in scientific research, systems analysis, engineering, and clinical support align well with USMCA profession categories. Academic support and library sciences positions occasionally qualify depending on the specific job title and degree requirements.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Boston University offer?
Once Boston University issues your formal offer letter confirming your USMCA profession category and employment details, Canadian nationals proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with that letter, transcripts, and supporting credentials. Mexican nationals schedule a consular appointment first. USCIS is not involved in TN admission, and no petition is filed on your behalf.
How long does TN admission take at Boston University?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is decided at the port of entry the day you present your documents, making same-day work authorization possible. Mexican nationals face consular processing timelines that vary by location and appointment availability. Boston University can issue its offer letter quickly once an offer is finalized, so the main variable is consular scheduling for Mexican applicants.
How do I find TN-eligible jobs at Boston University?
Migrate Mate filters open positions at Boston University by TN-eligible occupation categories, saving you from applying to roles that don't qualify under USMCA. Cross-reference any role's listed degree requirement against your credentials using O*NET occupation profiles before applying. Prioritize postings where the job title and required degree map cleanly to a named USMCA profession to strengthen your admission case.
How does TN visa admission work at Boston University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Boston University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
