Application requires:

Match your occupation to USMCA professions
Bucknell hires across dozens of roles, but TN status only covers occupations on the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your target role against that list before applying. Accountants, engineers, scientists, and computer systems analysts are commonly eligible in university settings.
Target departments with recurring TN needs
Faculty and research-intensive departments at Bucknell, including engineering, sciences, and economics, regularly hire professionals whose credentials align with TN-eligible categories. Focusing your search on these areas increases the odds your role will support TN admission without requiring a lengthy alternative process.
Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
TN requires a qualifying degree or relevant credentials specific to your occupation category. For academic roles at Bucknell, a graduate degree in the relevant discipline is typically expected. If your credentials were earned outside the U.S. or Canada, obtain a credential evaluation before the offer stage.
Request an offer letter that satisfies CBP
At the border or consulate, the officer reviews Bucknell's offer letter, not a petition. The letter must state your occupation, TN category, anticipated duration, and that the role is not displacing a U.S. worker. Ask HR explicitly whether their standard offer letter meets CBP requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find Bucknell TN openings
Searching general job boards won't filter for TN-compatible roles. Migrate Mate lets you search Bucknell University positions filtered by visa type so you can identify open roles where TN admission is a realistic path, saving you from applying to positions that won't support your status.
Prepare for port-of-entry or consulate review
Canadian citizens typically seek TN admission at a land port or airport; Mexican citizens apply through a U.S. consulate in advance. Either way, bring your offer letter, degree transcripts, and any professional licenses. Officers have discretion, so document the direct connection between your degree and the role's duties.
Bucknell University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bucknell University sponsor TN visas?
Bucknell University supports TN admission by issuing offer letters for qualifying Canadian and Mexican professionals in USMCA-listed occupations. There is no USCIS petition involved. The TN professional presents Bucknell's offer letter directly at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. Eligible roles span academic, technical, and research functions where USMCA professions apply.
Which roles at Bucknell University typically qualify for TN status?
Roles in engineering, computer science, economics, life sciences, and accounting are among the most commonly TN-eligible positions at Bucknell. Faculty and research staff positions tend to align well with the USMCA professions list. Administrative or support roles outside defined professional categories generally do not qualify, so confirming your specific job title against USMCA criteria is essential before applying.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Bucknell job offer?
Once Bucknell extends an offer, work with their HR or international services office to obtain a formal support letter that meets CBP standards. Canadian citizens then present the letter at a port of entry. Mexican citizens schedule a consular appointment in advance. USCIS is not involved in the TN process, and no petition filing is required from Bucknell.
How long does TN admission typically take for Bucknell positions?
Canadian citizens can receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry, assuming documentation is complete. Mexican citizens face longer timelines based on U.S. consulate appointment availability in their city, which can range from days to several weeks. Building buffer time into your start date negotiation with Bucknell reduces risk if processing takes longer than expected.
How do I find open TN-compatible roles at Bucknell University?
Standard job boards don't indicate whether a position supports TN admission. Migrate Mate lets you search Bucknell University openings filtered by visa type, helping you identify roles where TN is a viable path. Once you've identified a target role, confirm with Bucknell's HR that the job title maps to a recognized USMCA profession before investing time in the application.
How does TN visa admission work at Bucknell University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Bucknell University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
