Match your degree to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at Garver depends on your degree aligning with a recognized USMCA profession, not just your job title. Cross-reference your credentials against the official USMCA professions list before applying to confirm your discipline qualifies for the specific engineering or science role posted.
Request an offer letter early
Garver's support letter is your primary TN document at the border or consulate. Ask your recruiter to initiate the letter as soon as your offer is verbal. Delays in drafting it can compress your start-date timeline, especially if you're a Mexican national scheduling a consular appointment.
Verify your role matches Garver's project work
Garver hires across infrastructure, water, transportation, and federal sectors. When targeting open roles, confirm the position's core duties map to an USMCA-listed profession like civil engineer or scientist. A mismatch between your job duties and TN category is the leading cause of admission refusals.
Use Migrate Mate to find active TN roles
Searching broadly for Garver openings wastes time on roles that won't qualify for TN. Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type and employer TN history, so you can target Garver positions where TN admission is a realistic outcome before you contact a recruiter.
Prepare credential equivalency documentation
If your engineering degree is from a Canadian or Mexican university, have a credential evaluation ready that maps your three- or four-year program to a U.S. bachelor's degree equivalent. Garver hiring managers and border officers may both ask for it, so obtain the evaluation before your final interview.
Understand the border versus consulate distinction
Canadian professionals present TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry without pre-approval. Mexican nationals must schedule a consulate appointment, which adds weeks to your timeline. Confirm with Garver's HR team which process applies to your citizenship so your start date reflects the correct lead time.
Garver TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor TN visas?
Yes, Garver supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals in engineering, science, and related consulting roles. Garver issues the offer letter required for TN entry, but there's no employer petition or USCIS filing involved. You present Garver's documentation at the border or U.S. consulate depending on your citizenship.
Which roles at Garver typically qualify for TN admission?
Garver primarily hires engineers and scientists across disciplines including civil, environmental, mechanical, and structural engineering, as well as geologists and surveyors. These occupations appear on the USMCA professions list, making them natural fits for TN admission. Roles that mix engineering duties with general management or business functions may face closer scrutiny at admission.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Garver offer?
Once Garver extends an offer, ask HR to prepare a support letter that specifies your job title, duties, USMCA profession category, and employment terms. Canadian nationals bring this letter to a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals use it to apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. No USCIS petition is filed by Garver on your behalf.
How long does the TN process take when working with Garver?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission at the border can happen the same day if your documents are complete. Mexican nationals should plan for several weeks from offer acceptance to visa stamp, depending on consulate appointment availability. Garver's internal letter preparation typically takes a few business days once HR confirms your start date and role details.
How do I find TN-eligible job openings at Garver?
Garver posts openings across its infrastructure and consulting practice areas, but not all roles are labeled by visa type. Migrate Mate surfaces Garver positions filtered by TN-compatible hiring history, helping you identify which engineering and science roles are realistic targets before you apply. Cross-check the role's required degree against the USMCA professions list to confirm eligibility independently.
How does TN visa admission work at Garver?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Garver, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
