Match your degree to USMCA occupations
TN eligibility depends on your role falling within the USMCA professions list, so verify your specific job title maps to a qualifying category before applying. Use O*NET to confirm the occupation's standard requirements align with your credentials and High Point University's posted duties.
Target academic and research departments directly
High Point University's strongest TN hiring tends to cluster in faculty, research, and professional services roles. Reach out to department heads or hiring managers in those areas rather than waiting for listings, since academic positions often move quickly through internal referrals.
Request a precisely worded offer letter
The offer letter High Point University provides is your primary TN document at the port of entry or consulate. Ask HR to specify your USMCA profession category, your degree requirement, and your employment start date explicitly, since vague letters are the most common reason CBP officers ask follow-up questions.
Prepare credential documents before your interview
Canadian nationals enter at the border without a visa stamp, but you still need original degree transcripts, professional licenses, and your offer letter ready for CBP review. Get your credentials evaluated by a recognized service if your degree is from outside North America to avoid delays at the crossing.
Search verified TN employers on Migrate Mate
Before applying broadly, filter for education-sector employers with TN hiring history on Migrate Mate. This narrows your list to institutions that have already supported TN admission, so you spend your time on roles at organizations like High Point University that understand the process.
Understand the TN renewal timeline at your role
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely, but each renewal requires a current offer letter from High Point University confirming your continued employment. Line up your renewal paperwork at least 30 days before your current status expires to avoid a gap in work authorization.
High Point University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does High Point University sponsor TN visas?
Yes. High Point University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing the offer letter needed at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. The university does not file a petition with USCIS, since TN is treaty-based admission under USMCA, not an employer-sponsored petition. Your eligibility depends on your role appearing on the USMCA professions list.
Which roles at High Point University typically qualify for TN status?
Faculty, research scientists, engineers, accountants, and computer systems analysts are among the USMCA-listed occupations that commonly appear in university hiring. High Point University's academic and administrative structure means roles in sciences, business, and technology departments are the most frequent TN pathways. Confirm your specific title maps to a qualifying USMCA profession before applying.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from High Point University?
After accepting an offer, ask High Point University's HR team to issue a detailed offer letter that names your USMCA profession category and confirms your degree requirement. Canadian citizens present that letter at a port of entry to CBP. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate. Neither route involves a USCIS petition or waiting period.
How long does TN admission take at High Point University?
Canadian nationals can receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry if documents are in order. Mexican nationals typically wait two to four weeks for a consular appointment, though timing varies by location and season. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no USCIS processing queue, so your start date at High Point University is largely driven by your travel or appointment availability.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at High Point University?
Search Migrate Mate to filter education-sector employers with confirmed TN hiring history, including High Point University. Check the university's careers portal for active listings in academic and professional roles. Focus applications on departments where your USMCA occupation category is a strong match to the posted job duties, and contact hiring managers directly when listings are sparse.
How does TN visa admission work at High Point University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from High Point University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
