Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at Hofstra University depends on your role falling within the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your target position against O*NET occupation codes before applying. Roles like economist, engineer, or computer systems analyst qualify; general administrative titles typically don't.
Target faculty and research postings first
Hofstra University's TN hires skew toward academic and research functions. Focus your search on departments in sciences, business, engineering, and health professions, where USMCA-qualifying roles appear most consistently and hiring managers are familiar with supporting TN candidates through the offer process.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Hofstra University's offer letter is your primary TN support document. Ask HR to specify your job title using USMCA profession language, your minimum degree requirement, and your employment start date. Border officers and consular officials scrutinize these details, so vague descriptions create unnecessary risk at entry.
Verify your wage against OFLC Wage Search
Although TN doesn't require a formal prevailing wage certification, Hofstra University's offered salary should align with the OFLC Wage Search figures for your occupation and location. A salary significantly below the local wage level can raise admissibility questions at the port of entry or consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find active TN openings
Searching for TN-eligible roles at Hofstra University is faster when you filter by employers with a track record of supporting TN admission. Migrate Mate surfaces education-sector employers, including Hofstra University, that have historically hired in USMCA-qualifying roles, so you can target your applications more precisely.
Prepare your credential documentation before the interview
Hofstra University will evaluate your degree before issuing a TN offer letter. Have your transcripts, any credential evaluation report, and your professional license or certification ready at the interview stage. Delays in producing these documents can push your start date past the intended entry window.
Hofstra University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hofstra University sponsor TN visas?
Hofstra University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing offer letters for qualifying USMCA professions. It does not file a petition with USCIS. You present the offer letter at the border or U.S. consulate. Roles in education, research, and professional services are the most common TN-eligible positions at Hofstra.
Which departments at Hofstra University typically hire TN professionals?
Faculty and research roles across the colleges of engineering, business, health professions, and liberal arts and sciences are the most frequent sources of TN-eligible positions at Hofstra University. Professional staff roles in areas like accounting, computer systems, and scientific research also appear regularly within USMCA profession categories.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Hofstra University offer?
Once Hofstra University extends an offer, ask HR to issue a support letter that confirms your USMCA profession, degree requirement, and employment terms. Canadians present this letter directly at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a consular interview through USCIS guidance and submit the letter as part of their visa application package.
How long does the TN process take when working with Hofstra University?
Canadian applicants can often complete TN admission at the border in a single day once Hofstra University issues the offer letter. Mexican nationals face longer timelines due to consular appointment availability, which varies by location and season. Build in at least several weeks of lead time if a consular interview is required before your start date.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Hofstra University?
Use Migrate Mate to search for TN-eligible openings at Hofstra University, filtering by education-sector employers with a history of supporting TN admission. Separately, review Hofstra's careers portal and filter by department. Cross-check job titles against the USMCA professions list before applying to confirm your occupation qualifies for TN status.
How does TN visa admission work at Hofstra University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Hofstra University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
