Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission requires your role to fall within a USMCA-recognized profession. Before applying to ICF, verify your occupation against the official list and confirm your degree field directly supports the job title ICF is hiring for, not just the general function.
Target ICF's policy and research divisions
ICF's federal consulting and public health divisions regularly bring on economists, social scientists, and management consultants, all recognized TN professions. Prioritize job postings in these practice areas, where the role-to-profession alignment needed for TN admission is cleanest and most defensible.
Request a role-specific offer letter from ICF
ICF's offer letter must state your USMCA profession category, the project or engagement scope, and that employment is temporary. A generic offer letter missing these details can cause a border officer to deny admission, so align with ICF's HR team on the exact language before your appointment.
Search ICF's verified TN hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to review ICF's work authorization hiring history by role and department. This helps you identify which ICF practice areas have actively supported TN professionals, so you can target your application to teams with a demonstrated track record rather than guessing.
Prepare for same-day Canadian border admission
Canadian nationals don't need consular processing. You present ICF's offer letter, your credentials, and TN documentation directly at a port of entry or preclearance location. Organize your degree transcripts and professional licenses in advance, since border officers assess your qualifications on the spot with no prior USCIS review.
Understand Mexican nationals need consular scheduling
If you're a Mexican national, TN admission requires a visa stamp from a U.S. consulate before traveling. Schedule your consulate appointment early, as wait times vary significantly by location. Bring ICF's offer letter and supporting credentials to your appointment, since consular officers independently evaluate your USMCA profession eligibility.
ICF TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does ICF sponsor TN visas?
ICF supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA professions, including management consultants, economists, and scientists. TN is treaty-based admission, so there's no USCIS petition involved. ICF issues an offer letter that you present at the border or U.S. consulate. Roles must align with recognized USMCA profession categories, which ICF's consulting and research work often satisfies.
Which ICF roles and departments typically support TN admission?
ICF's federal consulting, public health, energy, and environment practice areas most frequently align with TN-eligible professions. Roles such as management consultant, economist, social scientist, and engineer appear regularly in these divisions. Project-based delivery work at ICF tends to fit the temporary employment requirement TN admission requires, making consulting and advisory roles the strongest fit.
How do I start the TN process once ICF extends an offer?
After ICF extends an offer, work with their HR team to obtain an offer letter specifying your USMCA profession category and the temporary nature of employment. Canadian nationals proceed directly to a port of entry or preclearance location. Mexican nationals schedule a U.S. consulate appointment for a TN visa stamp before traveling. No USCIS filing or Labor Condition Application is required for either route.
How long does TN admission take for an ICF role?
Canadian nationals can receive TN admission the same day at the border if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals face variable consulate wait times depending on location and appointment availability, so planning several weeks ahead is practical. TN status is granted in up to three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely, which suits ICF's long-term project staffing model.
How do I find ICF job openings that support TN admission?
Migrate Mate lets you filter ICF job openings by work authorization type, so you can identify roles where TN admission has historically been supported. Cross-reference any role against the USMCA professions list before applying, and confirm with ICF's recruiting team that your specific occupation category qualifies. Targeting practice areas where ICF regularly places TN professionals improves your chances significantly.
How does TN visa admission work at ICF?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from ICF, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
