Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission requires your role to fall within a recognized USMCA profession. At JMT, roles like civil engineer, environmental scientist, and urban planner map cleanly to the list. Cross-reference your degree title and job duties against O*NET before applying to confirm alignment.
Target JMT's infrastructure and civil divisions
JMT's project work centers on transportation, water, and infrastructure consulting. These practice areas generate the most demand for TN-eligible roles. Focus your search on openings in those divisions rather than applying broadly across the firm to improve your chances of a relevant offer.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Your TN admission depends on a support letter from JMT describing your role, qualifications, and employment terms. Ask the hiring team to confirm they can provide a letter aligned with USMCA profession descriptions before you reach the offer stage to avoid delays at the border.
Verify your wage against prevailing wage benchmarks
Canadian and Mexican TN professionals aren't subject to a formal wage certification, but JMT's offers should still reflect market rates for the role and location. Run the position through the OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer before negotiating compensation with the recruiting team.
Use Migrate Mate to find JMT TN openings
Searching for TN-compatible roles at a specific employer takes time without the right tools. Migrate Mate filters job listings by employer and visa type, so you can surface JMT openings that align with your TN profession category without sorting through unsponsored postings manually.
Prepare your credential documents before the border
Canadian nationals present TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry, so your degree transcripts, professional licenses, and JMT's offer letter must be ready before you travel. Certified translations and credential evaluations for non-English documents should be completed well in advance.
Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson sponsor TN visas?
Yes. JMT hires Canadian and Mexican nationals in TN-eligible roles across its engineering and consulting practices. The firm issues offer letters that support TN admission at the border or U.S. consulate. TN is treaty-based under USMCA, so there is no USCIS petition involved. JMT's role is to provide the documentation you present at entry.
Which roles at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson typically qualify for TN admission?
JMT's core technical disciplines align well with the USMCA professions list. Civil engineers, environmental scientists, urban planners, and management consultants are among the roles most likely to qualify. Your specific job title and duties must map to a recognized USMCA profession, so confirm the match using O*NET before accepting an offer.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a JMT offer?
Once JMT issues a formal offer letter describing your role, qualifications, and employment terms, you present that letter along with your credentials at a U.S. port of entry if you are Canadian, or at a U.S. consulate if you are Mexican. There is no USCIS petition to file. The admission decision is made at the border or consulate on the day you apply.
How long does TN admission take when working with Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically granted the same day at a U.S. port of entry, assuming your documents are complete and your role qualifies. Mexican nationals apply at a consulate and face standard appointment wait times, which vary by location and season. TN status is granted for up to three years and can be renewed without a cap.
How do I find open TN roles at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson?
JMT posts openings across its practice areas, but not all listings indicate visa support. Migrate Mate lets you filter employer listings by visa type, making it easier to identify JMT roles that align with TN-eligible professions without reviewing every posting individually. Targeting infrastructure and environmental consulting divisions gives you the strongest overlap with USMCA-qualified roles.
How does TN visa admission work at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
