Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility is defined by the USMCA professions list, not by job title alone. Before applying to Manhattan University, verify your role falls under a recognized category like Engineer, Scientist, or Computer Systems Analyst using O*NET to confirm the occupational classification.
Request a detailed TN support letter
Manhattan University's offer letter must specify your TN profession category, job duties, salary, and employment period. Ask HR explicitly to align the letter language with USMCA profession definitions, since border officers will scrutinize whether your described duties match the listed category.
Prepare transcripts before your border appointment
Canadian nationals present their TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry, so delays in obtaining official transcripts stall your entry, not just your paperwork. Gather certified degree transcripts and any professional licenses before you receive your final offer letter from Manhattan University.
Check prevailing wage benchmarks early in negotiations
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your occupation and the New York metro area before salary discussions with Manhattan University. Knowing the wage tiers helps you evaluate whether the offer is competitive and flags any compliance gaps the university should address.
Search Manhattan University TN roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces Manhattan University's TN-compatible openings filtered by employer hiring history and role type, so you're not sifting through listings that don't match your USMCA profession. Use it to identify Education-sector positions at the university that align with your credential category.
Align your TN duration with the contract term
TN status is granted in increments tied to your employment period, and Manhattan University often hires on academic-year or multi-year contracts. Request that your offer letter specify the full intended employment period so CBP grants you the maximum allowable TN duration at entry.
Manhattan University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Manhattan University sponsor TN visas?
Manhattan University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing the offer letters required at the border or consulate. It does not file a petition with USCIS, because TN is treaty-based under USMCA. Eligible candidates present their Manhattan University offer letter and supporting credentials directly to CBP or at a U.S. consulate.
Which roles at Manhattan University typically qualify for TN status?
Roles in STEM fields, computer systems, engineering, and sciences tend to align most directly with USMCA professions. Manhattan University also hires in academic and research capacities where professions like Scientific Technician or Management Consultant may apply. Your specific job title matters less than whether your actual duties and degree field match a recognized USMCA profession category.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Manhattan University offer?
Once Manhattan University issues your offer letter, Canadian nationals can proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with their documents. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular appointment. In both cases, you'll need your offer letter, degree credentials, and any professional licenses. USCIS is not involved in TN admission, so there's no petition filing or waiting period.
How long does TN admission take for Manhattan University hires?
Canadian nationals entering at a port of entry can typically complete TN admission in a single visit, often within hours. Mexican nationals face longer timelines tied to consular appointment availability, which varies by location and season. Neither path involves a USCIS petition queue, so the timeline is largely driven by border wait times or consulate scheduling, not adjudication.
How do I find open TN-compatible jobs at Manhattan University?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for Manhattan University openings by visa type and employer hiring history, which helps you identify roles that fit your USMCA profession category before you apply. Focus your search on positions where the listed qualifications directly match your degree field, since the degree-to-duties alignment is what CBP officers evaluate at entry.
How does TN visa admission work at Manhattan University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Manhattan University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
