Match your degree to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at a university employer like Marian University depends entirely on your role appearing on the USMCA professions list and your degree matching that field. Cross-reference your credentials against the list before applying to any posted position.
Target departments with recurring technical needs
Marian University's STEM, nursing, and computer science programs regularly hire professionals in TN-eligible categories. Focus your search on these departments rather than administrative roles, which rarely map to qualifying USMCA occupations and won't support TN admission.
Request a detailed offer letter upfront
At the border or consulate, the offer letter is your primary document. Ask Marian University's HR team to include your job title, USMCA profession category, salary, and employment start date. Vague letters are the leading cause of TN delays at ports of entry.
Verify your wage against OFLC Wage Search
Even though TN doesn't require an LCA, CBP officers can question whether your offered salary reflects the role's professional level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your offer meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your occupation and Marian University's location.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN employers
Before reaching out to Marian University, use Migrate Mate to review its TN hiring history by role and department. Knowing which occupations it has supported for TN admission helps you tailor your application to positions with genuine precedent at the institution.
Prepare your O*NET profile for CBP review
CBP officers often evaluate whether your specific duties match a USMCA profession. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your role and map your actual responsibilities to its task descriptions. Bringing this documentation strengthens your case if a CBP officer questions the match.

How long does TN admission take when working with a university employer?
Canadian citizens can receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate typically wait several weeks for a visa stamp appointment.
