Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission requires your role to appear on the USMCA professions list, so confirm your target position at Marquette University maps to a qualifying occupation before applying. Use O*NET to verify that your job duties align with the official profession classification.
Target faculty and research-adjacent postings
Marquette University's strongest TN hiring tends to cluster in academic departments and research centers. Filter your job search to roles in sciences, engineering, computer science, and social sciences, where USMCA-eligible job duties are most consistently embedded in the position requirements.
Request a detailed offer letter from HR
The offer letter Marquette University's HR team issues is your primary TN document at the border or consulate. Ask explicitly for a letter that states your USMCA profession category, your specific job duties, your start date, and that the position is non-immigrant in nature.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN roles
Searching broadly wastes time on roles Marquette University won't support for TN admission. Migrate Mate filters open positions by employers with confirmed TN hiring history, so you can prioritize departments and job titles that have actually moved TN candidates through the process.
Prepare your credential documentation early
CBP officers at the port of entry assess your qualifications on the spot, so gather your degree transcripts, professional licenses, and any credential evaluations before you receive the offer letter. A three-year Canadian bachelor's degree typically satisfies the USMCA baccalaureate requirement for most Marquette roles.
Understand renewal timing before your status expires
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no cap on renewals, but you must hold a valid continuing offer from Marquette University at each renewal. Confirm your employment contract extends beyond the renewal date before presenting at the border or consulate.
Marquette University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Marquette University sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Marquette University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing offer letters for qualifying roles. Because TN is a treaty-based admission category under USMCA rather than an employer petition, Marquette University does not file paperwork with USCIS. You present the offer letter yourself at a port of entry or U.S. consulate.
Which roles and departments at Marquette University typically qualify for TN admission?
Roles in engineering, computer science, life sciences, social sciences, and accounting most frequently align with USMCA profession categories at Marquette University. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and certain administrative specialists in technical fields are the most common TN-eligible hires. Roles that don't map to a named USMCA profession won't qualify regardless of the department.
How do I start the TN process once Marquette University extends an offer?
Ask Marquette University's HR or international services office to issue a detailed offer letter confirming your USMCA profession category, job duties, and employment terms. Canadians then present this letter at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate before traveling. USCIS is not involved in either path.
How long does TN admission take at Marquette University?
Canadians can receive TN admission the same day they appear at a port of entry with a complete package. Mexican nationals face consular appointment wait times, which vary by location and season. The bottleneck is typically how quickly Marquette University's HR team can prepare and issue your offer letter, so request it as soon as you accept the offer.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Marquette University?
Start by reviewing Marquette University's careers portal and cross-referencing posted roles against the USMCA professions list. Migrate Mate lets you filter for employers with confirmed TN hiring history, which helps you identify specific departments and job titles at Marquette University that have successfully supported TN admission for candidates in your field.
How does TN visa admission work at Marquette University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Marquette University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
