Match your degree to USMCA occupations
TN admission at Medical College of Wisconsin depends on your degree field matching an approved USMCA profession. Use O*NET to confirm your occupation's typical education requirements, then verify your credential aligns with the specific TN category before applying to MCW roles.
Target research and clinical support roles
MCW's research centers and clinical departments regularly bring on scientists, analysts, and allied health professionals in TN-eligible categories. Focusing your search on grant-funded research positions or biomedical support roles gives you the strongest alignment with their hiring patterns and TN-compatible job functions.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Your MCW offer letter must state your TN occupation category, job duties, salary, and employment period. Ask HR explicitly for these details during the offer stage. CBP or a consular officer will review this letter, so vague or incomplete language can delay your admission.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm TN eligibility
Before committing to a role at MCW, confirm the position genuinely qualifies under USMCA's profession list. Migrate Mate lets you check whether your specific job title and duties meet TN requirements, so you catch mismatches before they surface at the port of entry.
Prepare credentials for Canadian border entry
Canadian nationals can seek TN admission directly at a U.S. land border or pre-clearance location without a prior consular appointment. Bring your MCW offer letter, original degree certificates or transcripts, and professional license documentation if your occupation requires one under USMCA.
Account for consulate scheduling if you hold Mexican citizenship
Mexican TN applicants must attend a U.S. consular interview before traveling, which adds scheduling lead time compared to the Canadian border process. Build at least several weeks into your timeline after receiving your MCW offer letter, especially during peak consular appointment periods.
Medical College of Wisconsin TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Medical College of Wisconsin sponsor TN visas?
Medical College of Wisconsin supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA occupations. Rather than filing a petition, MCW issues a detailed offer letter that you present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles are limited to occupations defined by the USMCA professions list, so your position must fit within those categories.
Which departments at Medical College of Wisconsin typically hire TN professionals?
MCW's research institutes, biomedical sciences departments, and clinical support divisions are among the most active areas for TN-eligible hires. Roles such as research scientist, systems analyst, and allied health professional commonly appear in these units. Academic and administrative departments may also post positions that qualify, depending on the specific job duties and degree requirements.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from Medical College of Wisconsin?
Once MCW extends an offer, request a formal letter that specifies your TN occupation category, role description, salary, and intended employment period. Canadian nationals take this letter directly to a U.S. land border or pre-clearance site. Mexican nationals schedule a consular appointment and present the letter there. USCIS is not involved in TN admission at the border or consulate.
How long does TN admission take when starting at Medical College of Wisconsin?
Canadian nationals seeking TN status at a port of entry can often complete the process the same day, assuming documentation is complete. Mexican nationals face additional lead time due to consular scheduling, which can range from days to several weeks depending on the consulate's availability. Building a buffer into your MCW start date is advisable, particularly if you're coordinating a relocation.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Medical College of Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate lists TN-relevant openings and shows MCW's broader visa sponsorship history, helping you identify roles most likely to support TN admission. Cross-reference any position you find with the USMCA professions list and confirm that the posted job duties and required degree align with a recognized TN occupation category before you apply.
How does TN visa admission work at Medical College of Wisconsin?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Medical College of Wisconsin, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
