Match your degree to USMCA professions
TN eligibility is defined by the USMCA professions list, not the job title NSU posts. Cross-reference your degree field against the list before applying. A mismatch between your credential and the listed profession is the most common reason TN admission is denied at the border.
Target NSU's clinical and research departments
NSU runs pharmacy, optometry, dental, and health sciences programs that regularly need scientists, researchers, and allied health professionals in USMCA-eligible roles. These departments are more likely to issue TN support letters than administrative or general operations units, so focus your applications there.
Request a detailed offer letter from HR
NSU's HR team issues the offer letter you'll present at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. Confirm it specifies your USMCA profession category, your degree requirement, your start date, and that the role is temporary. Border officers reject vague letters, so ask HR to be explicit on all four points.
Use Migrate Mate to find NSU TN-eligible roles
Searching for roles that match USMCA professions across a large university's job board is time-consuming. Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa type and employer, so you can identify NSU positions that align with TN-eligible occupations without manually screening every posting.
Prepare credential documents before your interview
Canadian nationals present TN documents directly at the border, so you won't get a second chance to gather missing paperwork. Have your degree transcripts, professional license if your profession requires one, and NSU's offer letter ready before you travel. Digital backups on your phone are not accepted at ports of entry.
Clarify renewal expectations with NSU during negotiations
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but renewal depends on NSU continuing to employ you in the same USMCA-eligible role. Confirm during the offer stage whether NSU anticipates long-term need for your position, since a role that ends affects your status immediately.
Nova Southeastern University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nova Southeastern University sponsor TN visas?
Yes, NSU supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals hired into roles that qualify under the USMCA professions list. NSU does not file a petition with USCIS. Instead, it issues an offer letter that you present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligibility depends on your profession, degree, and the specific role.
Which departments at Nova Southeastern University typically hire TN professionals?
NSU's health sciences colleges, including pharmacy, optometry, dental medicine, and nursing programs, are among the most active in hiring professionals who qualify under USMCA categories. Research and engineering roles within NSU's science and technology programs also align well with TN-eligible professions. Administrative and business roles are less commonly supported for TN admission.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from NSU?
Once NSU extends an offer, ask HR to issue a TN support letter confirming your profession category, required degree, employment period, and the temporary nature of the role. Canadians bring this letter to a U.S. land border or preclearance airport. Mexican nationals schedule a consular interview. USCIS is not involved in the TN process for either nationality.
How long does TN admission take at Nova Southeastern University?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically decided at the port of entry on the same day, assuming your documents are complete. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate face standard nonimmigrant visa wait times, which vary by post and season. NSU's timeline is limited to issuing your offer letter, which HR usually processes within one to two weeks.
How do I find open TN-eligible roles at Nova Southeastern University?
Search NSU's careers page and filter for roles in health sciences, research, and engineering that match USMCA-listed professions. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer job listings filtered by visa type, which helps you identify NSU positions that align with TN categories without manually reviewing every posting. Confirm TN eligibility with your specific degree before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at Nova Southeastern University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Nova Southeastern University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
