Map your occupation to USMCA categories
Before applying to OHSU, confirm your role falls within the USMCA TN professions list. Clinical and research titles at OHSU often map to categories like Medical/Lab Technologist, Pharmacist, or Scientist, each with specific degree requirements you'll need to document precisely.
Target OHSU's clinical and research departments
OHSU's strongest TN hiring sits in its hospital, research institutes, and pharmacy programs. Focus your search on job postings from OHSU Health, the OHSU School of Medicine, and the Knight Cancer Institute, where TN-eligible professional roles appear most consistently.
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Canadian and Mexican degrees must meet the U.S. equivalency standard for your TN category. For clinical roles at OHSU, your transcript and licensure documents should clearly establish that your credential matches the USMCA-defined minimum for the specific profession, not just the general field.
Request a detailed offer letter from OHSU HR
Your OHSU offer letter is the centerpiece of your TN admission. It must state your job title matching the USMCA profession, your degree requirement for the role, your salary, and your start date. Ask HR explicitly to include each element, since omissions at the border cause preventable delays.
Search OHSU's verified TN roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find open positions at OHSU filtered by TN eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can identify which job titles at OHSU have active TN-compatible hiring history before you apply.
Prepare your port-of-entry documentation in advance
Canadians presenting at a U.S. land border or airport port of entry need their OHSU offer letter, original degree certificates, professional licenses, and a completed TN request. Organize these in a single folder so the CBP officer can review everything without delays during your admission.
Oregon Health & Science University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Oregon Health & Science University sponsor TN visas?
Yes, OHSU supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing offer letters for qualifying roles. TN is treaty-based admission under USMCA, so OHSU doesn't file a petition with USCIS. Instead, OHSU provides the documentation you present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate to establish your TN status.
Which roles at OHSU typically qualify for TN admission?
OHSU hires TN professionals most frequently in clinical, laboratory, pharmacy, and research functions. Roles that align with USMCA professions categories such as Pharmacist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Nurse, Scientist, and Research Assistant tend to appear in OHSU's TN-eligible hiring. Academic and administrative roles may qualify if the position requires a specific professional degree listed under USMCA.
How do I start the TN process with OHSU after receiving a job offer?
Once OHSU extends an offer, ask HR to issue a detailed support letter naming your USMCA profession category, the degree the role requires, your compensation, and your intended start date. Canadians then present this letter alongside their credentials at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico before traveling.
How long does TN admission take when starting at OHSU?
Canadians can receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry if all documents are in order, making it one of the fastest work authorization paths available. Mexican nationals applying through a U.S. consulate face appointment-dependent wait times that vary by location and season. OHSU's HR team can advise on timing once your offer is confirmed.
How do I find TN-eligible job openings at OHSU?
You can search OHSU's careers portal directly and filter for roles matching your USMCA profession. Migrate Mate also lets you search OHSU positions filtered by TN eligibility, drawing on DOL filing history to surface roles where TN admission is a realistic path. Cross-reference any target role against the USMCA professions list and O*NET to confirm your degree meets the category's requirements.
How does TN visa admission work at Oregon Health & Science University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Oregon Health & Science University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
