Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at Otterbein depends on your role falling within a defined USMCA profession. Cross-reference your degree field and job title against the official professions list before applying. A mismatch at the border or consulate means a denied entry with no easy fix.
Target departments with recurring TN needs
Otterbein's science, education, and professional studies departments most consistently hire into TN-eligible roles. Applying to faculty, research, or specialized administrative positions in these areas gives you the strongest alignment with the professions Otterbein regularly brings in through TN admission.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Otterbein's offer letter must specify your job title, duties, qualifications, and employment terms precisely enough for a border officer to confirm TN eligibility on the spot. Ask HR to include your relevant USMCA profession category explicitly. Vague letters cause delays or refusals at the port of entry.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiations
While TN has no LCA requirement, Otterbein's offered salary still reflects the regional education sector market. Run your role through the OFLC Wage Search using the relevant SOC code to benchmark what similar positions pay in Ohio before you negotiate, so your offer reflects competitive standards.
Search Migrate Mate to find open TN roles
Filtering for TN-supporting employers manually across job boards wastes significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces Otterbein University's open positions tagged by visa type, letting you focus your application on roles where TN admission is already expected rather than asking employers to accommodate it after the fact.
Prepare your credential documentation in advance
Canadian nationals entering at the border have no time to retrieve missing documents mid-process. Assemble your degree transcripts, professional licenses if required, and the Otterbein offer letter into one organized package before traveling. O*NET can help you articulate how your occupation classification maps to your credentials.
Otterbein University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Otterbein University sponsor TN visas?
Yes, Otterbein University supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing the required offer letter. Because TN is treaty-based under USMCA, there is no petition or USCIS filing involved. Your role must fall within the USMCA professions list, and you present Otterbein's offer letter at the port of entry or U.S. consulate.
Which roles at Otterbein University typically qualify for TN admission?
Positions in education, scientific research, computer systems analysis, and professional administrative functions most commonly align with USMCA-listed professions at Otterbein. Faculty roles in sciences, mathematics, and professional studies programs are particularly strong fits. Roles without a clear USMCA profession match, such as general operations staff, typically do not qualify regardless of employer support.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from Otterbein University?
Once Otterbein extends an offer, ask HR to prepare a detailed support letter confirming your job title, duties, your qualifying USMCA profession, and your start date. Canadian nationals then present this letter at a U.S. land border or pre-clearance location. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate. No USCIS filing occurs on either side.
How long does TN admission take when starting at Otterbein University?
Canadian nationals crossing at a port of entry can receive TN admission the same day if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals applying at a consulate typically wait one to several weeks depending on appointment availability. Migrate Mate can help you confirm your role qualifies and that your documentation package is complete before you travel or schedule your consulate appointment.
What happens to my TN status if my role at Otterbein University changes?
TN admission is tied to the specific role and employer listed in your entry documentation. A significant change in job duties or a departmental transfer that alters your USMCA profession category requires new TN admission. You would need Otterbein to issue an updated offer letter reflecting the new position before you can work in that changed capacity.
How does TN visa admission work at Otterbein University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Otterbein University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
