Match your credential to USMCA categories
TN admission requires your degree to align with a profession on the USMCA list, not just your job title. Before applying to Salas O'Brien, verify your credential maps to an eligible category like engineer, scientist, or technical consultant using O*NET occupational definitions.
Target engineering and technical consulting teams
Salas O'Brien's core practice areas in mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering are where TN-eligible roles concentrate. Focus your application on project engineering, commissioning, or energy consulting positions, since these align most directly with USMCA professional categories and the firm's client work.
Request a TN-specific offer letter early
Salas O'Brien's offer letter must state your USMCA profession category, job duties, and employment duration. Ask HR to confirm these details are included before you travel to the port of entry, because a vague letter is the most common reason CBP officers ask follow-up questions.
Prepare your border documents in the right order
Canadian nationals present their offer letter, degree credentials, and proof of citizenship directly to CBP at the port of entry without a prior visa appointment. Organize these documents as a single packet so the officer can verify your USMCA profession, employer, and intended role without delays.
Search verified TN employer histories on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify which Salas O'Brien roles have historically supported TN admissions and to filter open positions by visa type. This saves you from applying to roles where the job duties fall outside USMCA profession definitions before you invest time in the interview process.
Align your resume language with USMCA profession definitions
CBP evaluates your role against specific USMCA profession descriptions, not general industry titles. Rewrite your resume to reflect the technical duties and degree requirements of your USMCA category. Consulting roles at Salas O'Brien that emphasize specialized engineering analysis are easier to defend at the border than broadly described project management positions.
Salas O'Brien TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Salas O'Brien sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Salas O'Brien hires TN professionals and issues the offer letters Canadian and Mexican nationals need to support TN admission. Because TN is treaty-based under USMCA, there is no USCIS petition involved. Salas O'Brien provides documentation; you present it at the port of entry or U.S. consulate depending on your nationality.
Which roles at Salas O'Brien typically qualify for TN admission?
Roles in mechanical, electrical, civil, and systems engineering are the most common TN-eligible positions at Salas O'Brien, given the firm's focus on technical consulting and infrastructure projects. Scientific and computer-related roles may also qualify if the job duties and your degree align with an USMCA profession category. Generalist management or sales roles rarely meet the standard.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from Salas O'Brien?
Once Salas O'Brien issues your offer letter, confirm it specifies your USMCA profession category, anticipated duties, and employment period. Canadian nationals then travel to a U.S. port of entry with that letter, degree documents, and proof of citizenship. Mexican nationals schedule a consular appointment. Neither route requires USCIS approval before you begin work.
How long does it take to get TN status through Salas O'Brien?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically decided the same day at the port of entry, so the timeline from signed offer to work authorization can be as short as a few days once your documents are ready. Mexican nationals face longer waits tied to consular appointment availability, which varies by location and season.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Salas O'Brien?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Salas O'Brien job listings by visa type so you can identify roles the company has historically supported for TN professionals. Cross-reference any role you find against the USMCA professions list before applying to confirm your degree and intended duties meet the category requirements CBP will evaluate at admission.
How does TN visa admission work at Salas O'Brien?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Salas O'Brien, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
