Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at SUNY Upstate is determined by the USMCA professions list, not by the job title alone. Confirm your occupation maps to a listed category like Scientific Technologist, Pharmacist, or Medical Laboratory Technologist before applying to open roles.
Target clinical and research departments directly
SUNY Upstate's strongest TN hiring sits in its hospital divisions, research labs, and academic departments. Apply directly to roles in pathology, pharmacology, nursing science, and biomedical research, where TN-eligible occupation categories overlap most cleanly with posted job descriptions.
Request a TN-specific offer letter early
Ask HR explicitly for a TN support letter once you receive an offer. The letter must state your USMCA profession category, job duties, qualifying credentials, and employment period. Canadian nationals present this at the port of entry; Mexican nationals need it for consular processing.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN roles
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN admission. Migrate Mate filters jobs by employers with TN hiring history, so you can target SUNY Upstate and similar academic medical centers that already understand the offer letter process and USMCA profession requirements.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating salary
While TN doesn't require an LCA, your offered salary still signals legitimacy at the border. Run your occupation through OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions to ensure SUNY Upstate's offer aligns with prevailing wage for your role in the Syracuse, New York labor market.
Prepare credential documentation for border inspection
CBP officers at the port of entry evaluate your qualifications on the spot. Bring your original degree, transcripts, professional licenses, and any credential evaluation for non-U.S. degrees. SUNY Upstate roles often require licensure like RN or pharmacist credentials that CBP will verify independently.
SUNY Upstate Medical University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does SUNY Upstate Medical University sponsor TN visas?
SUNY Upstate Medical University supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing offer letters for roles that align with USMCA-listed occupations. There is no USCIS petition involved. The offer letter, combined with your credentials and proof of citizenship, is presented at the port of entry or U.S. consulate to obtain TN status.
Which roles at SUNY Upstate Medical University are eligible for TN status?
TN-eligible roles at SUNY Upstate tend to cluster in clinical, scientific, and academic functions. Positions such as pharmacist, medical laboratory technologist, scientific technologist, nurse, and university-level faculty can qualify when the job duties and your credentials align with a specific USMCA profession category. Administrative or general support roles typically fall outside TN scope.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from SUNY Upstate?
Once SUNY Upstate extends an offer, contact their HR or international hiring team to request a TN support letter. That letter should specify your USMCA profession, duties, salary, and employment dates. Canadian citizens can present it at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate using the letter as supporting documentation.
How long does TN processing take for SUNY Upstate positions?
Canadian citizens approved at the border typically receive TN status the same day. Mexican citizens applying at a U.S. consulate face longer timelines depending on appointment availability, typically several weeks. TN status is granted for up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely, making it practical for long-term employment at SUNY Upstate.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at SUNY Upstate Medical University?
Migrate Mate surfaces roles at employers with confirmed TN hiring history, including academic medical centers like SUNY Upstate. Filter by occupation and location to identify open positions where your USMCA profession category matches the posted role. Cross-reference the job description against O*NET occupation profiles to confirm your duties align before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at SUNY Upstate Medical University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from SUNY Upstate Medical University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
