Match your degree to USMCA professions
Texas A&M hires across dozens of disciplines, but TN status only covers specific USMCA professions. Cross-reference your degree field against the USMCA professions list before applying, a mismatch between your credential and the role's classification will block admission at the border.
Target research and faculty hiring cycles
Texas A&M's largest TN-eligible hiring windows open in late fall and early spring for faculty, postdoctoral, and research scientist roles. Applying outside those cycles means competing for fewer openings, so align your outreach to when departments actually post.
Ask HR about the offer letter format
Texas A&M's HR and international hiring offices issue the offer letter you'll present at the port of entry or consulate. Confirm the letter explicitly states your role title, duties, USMCA profession category, and employment start date before you book any travel or appointments.
Verify your wage against OFLC benchmarks
Even though TN doesn't require a Labor Condition Application, border officers can question whether your offered salary reflects the role's complexity. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your offer is competitive for your occupation and Texas location before your admission appointment.
Search Texas A&M openings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate shows verified TN-eligible job listings at Texas A&M filtered by USMCA profession categories. Use it to identify which departments are actively hiring for roles that align with your credential before reaching out to individual hiring managers or submitting applications.
Prepare your O*NET occupation profile early
If your job title is atypical for academia, border officers may probe whether it genuinely falls under a listed USMCA profession. Pull your role's O*NET profile in advance and be ready to explain how your duties and degree align with the recognized profession category.
Texas A&M University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Texas A&M University sponsor TN visas?
Texas A&M University supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing the employer offer letter required for entry. The university doesn't file a petition with USCIS, TN is treaty-based, so you present the offer letter at the border or U.S. consulate. Roles must fall within the USMCA professions list to qualify.
Which departments at Texas A&M typically hire TN professionals?
Research-intensive departments in engineering, computer science, life sciences, mathematics, and agriculture are among the most active for TN-eligible roles. Faculty, postdoctoral researcher, and research scientist positions tend to align most consistently with USMCA profession categories, though administrative and healthcare-adjacent roles in larger colleges also appear regularly.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Texas A&M offer?
Once Texas A&M issues your offer letter, Canadian nationals can present it directly at a U.S. port of entry for same-day admission. Mexican nationals must schedule a TN visa appointment at a U.S. consulate and attend an interview. In both cases, bring your offer letter, degree credentials, and any supporting documentation confirming your USMCA profession classification.
How long does TN admission take for a Texas A&M role?
Canadian nationals typically receive TN admission on the same day at the port of entry if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals face consulate scheduling timelines that vary by location and season, ranging from a few weeks to several months. Texas A&M's HR team can often issue your offer letter within days of a signed acceptance, so consulate wait time is usually the main variable.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Texas A&M University?
Migrate Mate filters Texas A&M job listings by TN-eligible USMCA profession categories, so you can focus on roles that actually match your credential and classification rather than sifting through every posting. You can also monitor Texas A&M's official careers portal directly and filter by department or job family to identify research and faculty openings as they post.
How does TN visa admission work at Texas A&M University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Texas A&M University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
