Match your degree to USMCA categories
TN admission requires your degree to correspond directly to a USMCA profession. For Thornton Tomasetti roles, review the official USMCA professions list and confirm your engineering or science credentials align before applying. A mismatch at the border causes immediate rejection with no appeal.
Target structural and civil engineering openings
Thornton Tomasetti's core practice areas in structural, civil, and forensic engineering map cleanly onto USMCA Engineer categories. Prioritize roles in these disciplines when searching, since your TN admission case is strongest when the job title and your degree field are unambiguous matches.
Request a precise offer letter from HR
Thornton Tomasetti's HR team issues the offer letter you'll present at the port of entry or consulate. Ask them to include your specific USMCA profession category, degree requirement, and employment start date. Officers at the border use this letter to verify eligibility, so vague language creates unnecessary risk.
Search verified TN employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify open roles at Thornton Tomasetti filtered by TN eligibility and DOL Labor Condition Application data. This saves significant time compared to manually scanning job boards, and surfaces positions where the employer's sponsorship history is already confirmed for Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Prepare credential documentation before your interview
Canadian applicants present TN documents directly at the border, so delays are costly. Gather your degree transcripts, professional licenses, and a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside North America well before your Thornton Tomasetti start date. Border officers won't wait for paperwork you didn't bring.
Understand the one-year renewal cycle early
TN status is granted in one-year increments and must be renewed to continue working. Coordinate with Thornton Tomasetti's HR team at least two months before your TN expires to confirm a renewal support letter is ready, since you'll need a new letter each time regardless of how long you've been employed.
Thornton Tomasetti TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thornton Tomasetti sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Thornton Tomasetti supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing offer letters that candidates present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. The firm does not file a USCIS petition for TN, since TN is a treaty-based admission category under USMCA, not an employer-petitioned visa.
Which roles at Thornton Tomasetti typically qualify for TN admission?
Engineering roles are the primary fit, particularly structural, civil, mechanical, and geotechnical engineers whose credentials align directly with the USMCA Engineer profession category. Project managers or analysts whose positions require a specific USMCA-listed degree may also qualify, but roles without a clear USMCA profession match are not eligible for TN admission.
How do I start the TN process with Thornton Tomasetti?
After receiving a job offer, you'll request a TN support letter from Thornton Tomasetti's HR team. Canadian citizens present this letter along with credentials at a U.S. port of entry and receive TN status on the spot if approved. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico and receive a TN visa stamp before traveling.
How long does the TN admission process take at Thornton Tomasetti?
For Canadian applicants, the process happens at the border on the day of travel, typically taking under an hour if documents are complete. Mexican applicants should expect two to four weeks for a consular appointment and visa issuance. Thornton Tomasetti's HR team generally prepares the offer letter within one to two weeks of a signed offer.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Thornton Tomasetti?
Migrate Mate lets you search Thornton Tomasetti's open roles filtered by TN eligibility, so you can identify positions where the company actively supports Canadian and Mexican professionals. Cross-reference the job title against the USMCA professions list and confirm with Thornton Tomasetti's HR team that the role has been designated as TN-eligible before accepting an offer.
How does TN visa admission work at Thornton Tomasetti?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Thornton Tomasetti, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
