Match your credential to USMCA professions
TN admission depends on your occupation appearing on the USMCA professions list, not just UK's job posting. Cross-check your degree and intended role against the list before applying. A mismatch at the border causes immediate denial, regardless of UK's support.
Target UK departments with recurring TN roles
UK's colleges of engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and agriculture regularly hire in TN-qualifying categories like engineers, scientists, and computer systems analysts. Filtering your job search to these units increases your odds of landing a role where UK's hiring team already understands TN requirements.
Verify your offer letter covers all border requirements
UK's offer letter must specify your TN profession category, job duties, salary, and employment period. Canadians present this at a port of entry; Mexicans use it at a U.S. consulate. A letter missing any required element can delay or block your admission, so review it against USCIS guidance before traveling.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm UK's TN hiring history
Before reaching out to UK recruiters, use Migrate Mate to review the university's sponsorship activity across visa types. Seeing which departments and roles have historically supported international professionals helps you tailor your outreach and pitch yourself to the right hiring managers.
Prepare a TN-specific credentials package early
Border officers assess TN eligibility on the spot. Assemble your degree transcripts, professional licenses, and a clear description of how your qualifications align with your TN profession category well before your travel date. For roles in health sciences or engineering at UK, credentialing boards may add preparation time.
Clarify renewal timing with UK's HR before starting
TN status is granted in increments and must be renewed to continue working at UK. Confirm with UK's international HR team how far in advance they issue updated offer letters for renewals, so you're not scrambling near your admission expiry with travel or status gaps.
University of Kentucky TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Kentucky sponsor TN visas?
Yes, University of Kentucky supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in USMCA-eligible professions. UK issues the offer letter required for TN status, which you present at a port of entry or U.S. consulate. There is no USCIS petition involved. Eligible roles span engineering, sciences, health-related fields, and other USMCA-listed occupations within UK's academic and research units.
Which roles and departments at University of Kentucky typically qualify for TN status?
UK's strongest TN hiring tends to occur in its colleges of engineering, medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, and information technology. Common qualifying TN profession categories include engineers, scientists, computer systems analysts, and accountants. Faculty and research positions tied to these disciplines align well with USMCA profession definitions, but your specific job duties and degree must match the applicable TN category.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from University of Kentucky?
Once UK issues your offer letter, Canadian nationals can proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with their letter, passport, credentials, and supporting documentation. Mexican nationals must schedule a visa appointment at a U.S. consulate and obtain a TN visa stamp before traveling. UK's international HR office typically coordinates the offer letter content, so confirm the required details with them early.
How long does TN admission at University of Kentucky take to arrange?
For Canadians, TN admission is often processed same-day at the port of entry once your documents are in order. For Mexican nationals, consulate appointment wait times vary by location and season and can add several weeks to the timeline. Build in extra time if your role requires credentialing verification, which is common for health sciences positions at UK.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at University of Kentucky?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for employers with international sponsorship activity, including universities like UK, so you can focus your search on roles where TN support is realistic. You can also search UK's official careers portal directly, filtering by department. Cross-reference any role you find against the USMCA professions list to confirm your occupation qualifies before investing time in the application.
How does TN visa admission work at University of Kentucky?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from University of Kentucky, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
