Match your degree to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at UMHB depends on your role falling within the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your specific credential against the official USMCA annex before applying. A mismatch between your degree field and the listed profession is the most common reason TN admission is refused at the border.
Target faculty and instructional technology roles
UMHB's academic departments and instructional technology teams are the most consistent sources of TN-eligible openings. Focus your search on postings that require a subject-specific bachelor's degree or higher, as those align most directly with TN profession categories recognized under USMCA for education employers.
Request a detailed offer letter covering all TN requirements
Ask UMHB's HR team to confirm the offer letter specifies your USMCA profession category, the prearranged nature of employment, and your anticipated duration of stay. Canadian nationals present this letter directly at the port of entry, so every required detail must appear in the document before you travel.
Verify your wage meets the prevailing wage standard
Even though TN doesn't require a Labor Condition Application, your UMHB offer should reflect wages consistent with local education-sector norms. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your offered salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your occupation and location before you finalize acceptance.
Search UMHB openings using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter UMHB job listings by TN-eligible roles, so you're applying only to positions where the employer has a documented pattern of supporting USMCA-based professionals. This cuts time spent on roles where TN admission support is unlikely or where the occupation category won't qualify.
Prepare for same-day admission as a Canadian national
Canadian citizens don't need a consular appointment, but a same-day border adjudication means your supporting documents must be complete and organized. Bring your credential evaluations, UMHB offer letter, and any relevant transcripts in a single packet. Disorganized paperwork causes delays even when the underlying case is straightforward.
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Mary Hardin-Baylor sponsor TN visas?
Yes. UMHB supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican professionals hired into qualifying roles. The university issues the offer letter you need to present at a port of entry or U.S. consulate. Eligible positions must align with the USMCA professions list, which covers many academic, scientific, and technology-related occupations common in higher education.
Which roles at UMHB are most likely to qualify for TN status?
Faculty positions, instructional technology specialists, engineers, accountants, and computer science professionals are among the roles most frequently compatible with TN profession categories. Administrative roles without a specific degree requirement typically don't qualify. Review the USMCA professions annex against your target role before applying to confirm eligibility.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a UMHB offer?
Once UMHB extends an offer, their HR team prepares a support letter confirming the role, profession category, and employment details. Canadian nationals bring that letter to a port of entry for same-day adjudication. Mexican nationals use it to apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate before traveling. No USCIS petition is involved.
How long does TN admission at UMHB typically take?
Canadians are admitted the same day at the border if their documentation is complete, making UMHB-supported TN one of the faster work authorization paths available. Mexican nationals face consular appointment wait times that vary by location and season. Both statuses are granted for up to three years and are renewable without a cap on total renewals.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at UMHB?
Search UMHB's careers page filtering for roles that match USMCA profession categories relevant to your background. Migrate Mate can help you identify which open positions at UMHB align with TN-eligible occupations, saving you from applying to roles that won't support this admission pathway. Cross-check any role's requirements against O*NET to confirm the degree-occupation match.
How does TN visa admission work at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
