Map your role to USMCA professions
Before applying, confirm your specific job title at UMMC maps to a recognized USMCA profession category. Clinical roles like nurses, medical technologists, and pharmacists qualify, but job titles that blend administrative and clinical duties sometimes fall outside the list.
Request a detailed offer letter
UMMC's offer letter must state your job title, duties, USMCA profession category, salary, and employment start date. Vague duty descriptions are the most common reason TN admission is questioned at the port of entry, so ask HR to be explicit.
Verify your credentials match UMMC's requirements
UMMC operates in a regulated clinical environment, so licensing and credential verification happens before your offer is finalized. Confirm your degree is evaluated and any required state licensure is in progress before your border or consulate appointment date.
Search UMMC openings using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter UMMC job listings by TN-eligible roles. The platform surfaces positions at employers with TN hiring history, so you spend less time applying to roles that won't support your admission as a Canadian or Mexican national.
Prepare for the O*NET occupation alignment question
Consular officers and CBP officers may ask how your duties align with the USMCA profession. Review the O*NET occupation profile for your role before your appointment so you can clearly explain how your day-to-day work at UMMC meets the standard definition.
Plan your TN renewal timeline around UMMC contracts
TN status is granted in increments tied to your employment period. If UMMC issues a fixed-term contract, your TN duration will match it. Request a multi-year contract where possible so you can request a longer admission period at the border.
University Of Mississippi Medical Center TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Mississippi Medical Center sponsor TN visas?
Yes, UMMC supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in USMCA-eligible roles. As an academic medical center, UMMC regularly hires in clinical, research, and scientific occupations that appear on the USMCA professions list. UMMC issues the required offer letter; you present it at a U.S. port of entry or consulate to obtain TN status.
Which roles at UMMC are typically eligible for TN admission?
UMMC's hiring across healthcare and academic research creates TN-eligible opportunities in nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, computer systems analysis, scientific research, and university-level instruction. Roles that combine clinical care with administrative responsibilities may require additional review to confirm they fit a recognized USMCA profession category.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a UMMC job offer?
Once UMMC extends an offer, ask HR to issue a detailed support letter covering your job title, duties, USMCA profession category, salary, and employment period. Canadian nationals then present that letter directly at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate before traveling. There is no USCIS petition required for either.
How long does TN admission at UMMC typically take?
Canadians can receive TN admission the same day at the border if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals should allow several weeks for a consulate appointment. The full timeline from UMMC offer to first day of work often runs three to six weeks, depending on consulate availability and how quickly credentials are verified.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at UMMC?
Migrate Mate filters UMMC job listings to surface roles aligned with TN-eligible USMCA professions, saving you from applying to positions that won't support your admission. You can also search UMMC's careers site directly and cross-reference each title against the USMCA professions list before applying to confirm eligibility.
How does TN visa admission work at University Of Mississippi Medical Center?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from University Of Mississippi Medical Center, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
