The program curriculum is designed to elevate performance nutrition education through novel, practical curriculum that crosses dietetics practice with performance nutrition services. Match your degree to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at USC depends on your role appearing on the USMCA professions list and your degree aligning specifically with that occupation. Cross-reference your transcript against the job posting before applying, a mismatch between degree field and role title is the most common TN denial trigger.
Target research and faculty-adjacent postings
USC's strongest TN hiring concentrates in research, scientific, and academic support roles. Look for postings in departments with active federal grants or lab-based work, where hiring managers are accustomed to supporting international candidates and already understand the TN offer letter requirement.
Request a detailed offer letter early
USC's HR or international services office issues the offer letter you'll present at the border or consulate. Ask for it to explicitly state your job title using USMCA profession language, your qualifying degree requirement, and your start date, CBP officers evaluate all three at the port of entry.
Verify your wage against OFLC Wage Search
Even though TN doesn't require a formal LCA, your offered salary should meet or exceed the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Look up your SOC code and USC's county in OFLC Wage Search before negotiating compensation, underpaying relative to prevailing wage can surface issues at renewal.
Use Migrate Mate to find USC's verified TN roles
Migrate Mate surfaces roles at USC filtered by visa type, so you can identify open positions where TN admission is realistic rather than cold-applying across the full job board. Search by occupation category to narrow to roles aligned with your USMCA profession and academic background.
Prepare your O*NET occupation profile in advance
CBP officers sometimes ask how your duties map to the USMCA profession you're claiming. Pull your O*NET occupation profile before your border or consulate appointment and be ready to explain how your specific USC responsibilities align with the listed tasks and required education for that occupation.
University of South Carolina TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of South Carolina sponsor TN visas?
USC supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals hired into roles that qualify under the USMCA professions list. The university doesn't file a petition with USCIS, instead, it issues an offer letter that you present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles are concentrated in academic, research, and scientific positions across the university.
Which departments at University of South Carolina typically hire TN professionals?
TN-eligible hiring at USC most commonly occurs in research-intensive departments, STEM fields, and academic support units where roles align with USMCA professions such as engineer, scientific technician, or computer systems analyst. Colleges with active federal research grants tend to be the most experienced with international hiring and the TN offer letter process.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from USC?
Once USC extends an offer, contact their international HR or faculty affairs office to request a formal offer letter written in USMCA-compliant language. Canadians present this letter directly at a U.S. land border or airport port of entry. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate using the letter as supporting documentation before traveling.
How long does TN admission take for a USC role?
Canadian nationals can often receive TN admission the same day at the port of entry, assuming documentation is complete and the role clearly maps to a USMCA profession. Mexican nationals typically wait several weeks for a consular appointment. In both cases, the timeline depends heavily on how quickly USC prepares the offer letter after an accepted offer.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at University of South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters USC job listings by visa type, letting you identify roles where TN admission is a realistic pathway rather than scanning postings without sponsorship context. Cross-reference any role you find against the USMCA professions list to confirm your occupation qualifies before investing time in the application process.
How does TN visa admission work at University of South Carolina?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from University of South Carolina, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
