Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility depends on fitting a specific USMCA profession list, not just having a relevant degree. Confirm your occupation qualifies before applying to University of the Pacific roles. Use O*NET to verify your job title aligns with an accepted TN category in education.
Target faculty and research postings first
University of the Pacific's TN hiring concentrates in faculty, academic research, and specialized instructional roles. Prioritize postings in these departments, as hiring managers there are more familiar with issuing offer letters for TN admission than administrative or operational teams.
Secure a detailed offer letter before crossing
Your offer letter must specify your TN profession category, employment duration, salary, and job duties. University of the Pacific's HR team produces this document. A vague letter is the most common reason CBP officers question TN admission at the port of entry.
Find verified TN employers through Migrate Mate
Before investing time in applications, confirm University of the Pacific has active TN-eligible openings. Migrate Mate surfaces roles at institutions with TN hiring history, so you can focus your search on positions where Canadian and Mexican nationals are actively considered.
Prepare degree equivalency documentation early
Canadian and Mexican degree credentials must clearly correspond to the required U.S. educational standard for your TN profession. If your degree title differs from the USMCA list terminology, gather official transcripts and a credential evaluation before University of the Pacific initiates your offer letter.
Clarify employment terms before the border appointment
TN status is granted for up to three years and tied to your specific employer and role. Confirm your start date, work location, and position title with University of the Pacific's HR team before you travel, since CBP officers verify these details match your offer letter exactly.
University Of The Pacific TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of the Pacific sponsor TN visas?
University of the Pacific supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals by issuing offer letters for qualifying roles. TN is not an employer-petitioned visa, so the university doesn't file with USCIS on your behalf. You present the offer letter at the border or a U.S. consulate to obtain TN status directly.
Which roles at University of the Pacific typically qualify for TN admission?
Faculty, academic researchers, and specialized instructional staff in education-related disciplines are the most common TN-eligible roles at University of the Pacific. Your position must correspond to an occupation listed under the USMCA TN profession categories. Review the USCIS TN profession list and cross-reference your job duties before applying.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from University of the Pacific?
Request a formal offer letter from University of the Pacific's HR department specifying your profession, duties, salary, and employment period. Canadian nationals present this letter at a port of entry. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate. No USCIS petition is involved, so there's no waiting period for agency review.
How long does TN admission typically take at University of the Pacific?
Canadian nationals with a complete offer letter from University of the Pacific can receive TN admission at the border the same day. Mexican nationals face consulate scheduling timelines, which vary by location and demand. Build in several weeks for Mexican applicants to account for appointment availability and document review.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at University of the Pacific?
Search University of the Pacific's careers page and filter for faculty and research postings matching your USMCA profession. Migrate Mate also lists TN-relevant openings at education employers, helping you identify roles where your credentials and visa status are a fit before you spend time on a full application.
How does TN visa admission work at University Of The Pacific?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from University Of The Pacific, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
