Match your credentials to USMCA categories
TN admission at VHB depends on your role fitting a USMCA profession, not just your job title. Cross-reference your degree and intended position against the official USMCA professions list before applying. Engineers and environmental scientists are common TN categories at consulting firms like VHB.
Align your degree field to the role
VHB's technical roles often require a degree that directly corresponds to the position, not a general science or business degree. If your credential is in a related but adjacent field, gather documentation showing how your coursework maps to the specific engineering or planning discipline you're targeting.
Request a role-specific offer letter
VHB's offer letter is your primary document at the port of entry. Ask your hiring contact to specify your USMCA profession category, the technical nature of your duties, and your qualifications explicitly. A vague letter describing generic consulting work creates unnecessary risk at the border.
Time your border crossing strategically
Canadian TN applicants are admitted at a port of entry with no advance petition. Avoid presenting at busy crossings on Monday mornings or before federal holidays when officer queues are longer. Bring a complete, organized document packet so any secondary inspection moves quickly.
Search VHB roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify VHB positions where TN admission is a realistic outcome based on actual hiring data. Filtering by USMCA-eligible job categories helps you prioritize applications to teams and service lines where technical professionals are actively sought.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wages
Even though TN doesn't require a Labor Condition Application, VHB's offer must reflect market-rate compensation for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search or Bureau of Labor Statistics data to confirm your offered salary aligns with what comparable engineering and consulting professionals earn in that metro.
VHB TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does VHB sponsor TN visas?
Yes. VHB hires TN professionals by issuing offer letters that candidates present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Because TN is treaty-based admission under USMCA rather than an employer petition, VHB doesn't file paperwork with USCIS on your behalf. The offer letter, your credentials, and your USMCA-qualifying role determine admission.
Which roles at VHB typically qualify for TN admission?
VHB's technical disciplines, including civil and environmental engineering, transportation planning, and land use consulting, align closely with USMCA profession categories. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering or a natural science are most commonly supported. General management or business development positions rarely meet the USMCA profession definition and are unlikely to qualify.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a VHB offer?
Once VHB issues your offer letter, Canadian citizens present it directly at a U.S. port of entry along with credentials, the letter, and any supporting documentation for your profession category. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate for a TN visa stamp before traveling. Neither route involves a USCIS petition or waiting period tied to employer filing.
How long does TN admission take at VHB?
Canadian citizens can receive TN admission the same day at the port of entry if documentation is complete and the officer is satisfied. Mexican citizens face consular appointment timelines that vary by post. VHB's offer letter preparation is typically straightforward, so most delays stem from consular scheduling or incomplete credentials rather than the employer side.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at VHB?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employer and visa type, making it easier to identify VHB roles where TN admission is a realistic outcome. Look specifically for positions in engineering, environmental sciences, and planning disciplines, since those map most reliably to USMCA profession categories that VHB regularly supports for Canadian and Mexican professionals.
How does TN visa admission work at VHB?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from VHB, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
