Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at Widener University depends entirely on your role falling within the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your degree and job title against the list before applying. A mismatch between your credentials and the listed occupation category is the most common reason TN admission is refused at the border.
Target departments with recurring professional needs
Widener's law school, engineering programs, and health sciences divisions regularly hire professionals in TN-eligible occupations like Scientific Technician, Economist, and Computer Systems Analyst. Focusing your search on these departments improves your odds of finding roles that align with USMCA occupation categories.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Widener University's offer letter is your primary document at the port of entry. Ask HR to confirm it specifies your USMCA occupation category, degree requirement, employer details, and employment start date. Vague letters cause delays; a precise letter makes the border officer's review straightforward and fast.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready openings
Searching broadly across job boards wastes time on roles that won't qualify. Migrate Mate filters listings by employers with TN sponsorship history in education, so you can focus on Widener University postings in departments that have hired TN professionals in USMCA-listed roles before.
Verify your wage against OFLC Wage Search
Although TN doesn't require a Labor Condition Application, your offered salary still signals legitimacy to a border officer. Check the prevailing wage for your occupation and location using OFLC Wage Search before your interview. A salary well below the prevailing rate can trigger closer scrutiny.
Prepare for intent questions at the port of entry
TN status requires demonstrating nonimmigrant intent. If you hold a pending Green Card application or have close U.S. family ties, prepare a clear explanation of your intent to return. Widener University's HR team can provide supporting documentation confirming the temporary, defined nature of your position.
Widener University TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Widener University sponsor TN visas?
Widener University supports TN admission by issuing offer letters for Canadian and Mexican nationals in USMCA-listed professions. It does not file a petition with USCIS; you present Widener's offer letter at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles span academic, research, and administrative functions tied to recognized USMCA occupation categories.
Which roles at Widener University typically qualify for TN status?
Roles in Widener's law school, engineering, health sciences, and computer science programs frequently align with USMCA professions such as Lawyer, Engineer, Computer Systems Analyst, and Scientific Technician. Administrative and research positions may also qualify depending on the specific occupation and your credentials. Confirm the match against the USMCA professions list before applying.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Widener University offer?
Once Widener issues your offer letter, Canadian nationals can proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with supporting documents. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate. You'll need your offer letter, proof of citizenship, and credential documentation showing you meet the USMCA occupation requirements. USCIS is not involved for Canadian applicants entering at the border.
How long does TN admission take when working with Widener University?
Canadian nationals applying at the border typically receive a decision the same day. Mexican nationals using the consular route face appointment wait times that vary by location and season. Once admitted, TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely, provided you maintain a valid offer from Widener University.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Widener University?
Migrate Mate surfaces Widener University job listings filtered by TN sponsorship history in the education sector, saving you from sifting through roles that won't qualify. You can also monitor Widener's careers page directly and filter for departments in law, engineering, and health sciences, where USMCA-listed occupations appear most consistently.
How does TN visa admission work at Widener University?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Widener University, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
