Match your credential to USMCA categories
TN admission is limited to specific USMCA profession categories. Before applying to WSP, verify your degree maps directly to an eligible profession like engineer, scientist, or technical consultant. A mismatch between your credentials and the role category is the most common reason for TN refusal at the border.
Target WSP's infrastructure and environmental divisions
WSP's core work spans transportation, water, environmental, and energy infrastructure. These practice areas generate the most TN-eligible openings for engineers and scientists. Focusing your search on these divisions gives you the strongest alignment between WSP's active hiring and the USMCA professions list.
Request an offer letter that names your profession category
WSP's offer letter must explicitly state your USMCA profession category, your job duties, and the anticipated duration. A vague letter describing general responsibilities can trigger questions at the port of entry. Ask your WSP recruiter to confirm the letter follows the standard TN support format before you travel.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm WSP's TN hiring history
Researching WSP's sponsorship track record before applying saves you time. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer, letting you see which roles WSP has historically supported for work authorization, so you can target the most active practice areas in your discipline.
Prepare your credential documentation before interviews
WSP's technical teams expect candidates to arrive with credentials verified. Gather your degree certificates, any professional engineering licensure, and a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside Canada or the U.S. Having these ready speeds up the offer process and reduces delays before your border crossing.
Know your port-of-entry options as a Canadian national
Canadian TN applicants present their WSP offer letter, credentials, and fee directly at a U.S. port of entry or preclearance facility. You don't need to wait for USCIS processing. Choosing a land border crossing during off-peak hours typically means shorter queues and more time for the CBP officer to review your documents.
WSP TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor TN visas?
WSP supports TN admission for qualifying Canadian and Mexican professionals in engineering, environmental science, and related technical disciplines. WSP is not filing a petition on your behalf. Instead, WSP issues a support letter that you present at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. The role must fall within the USMCA professions list for TN admission to apply.
Which departments at WSP typically hire TN professionals?
WSP's transportation, water, environmental, and energy infrastructure practices generate the most TN-eligible roles. Engineers, geoscientists, environmental scientists, and technical consultants working across these divisions are the professionals most commonly hired under TN status. Project management and planning roles may qualify depending on the specific duties and the candidate's degree field.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a WSP offer?
Once WSP extends an offer, request a formal support letter that identifies your USMCA profession category, describes your specific duties, and states the employment period. Canadian nationals take this letter, their credentials, and the CBP fee directly to a port of entry. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate before traveling.
How long does the TN process take when working with WSP?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically granted at the port of entry on the day of crossing, assuming documentation is complete. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate should expect consular appointment and processing timelines that vary by location. TN status is issued in increments of up to three years and can be renewed without a cap on total duration.
How do I find TN-eligible jobs at WSP?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for WSP roles tied to TN-supported disciplines, so you can focus on openings that match both your profession category and WSP's active practice areas. Cross-reference any role you're targeting against the USMCA professions list and confirm your degree field aligns with the job duties before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at WSP?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from WSP, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
