Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Nursing Jobs at University of California Los Angeles Jobs
Verify Your Credentials Through CGFNS First
Before applying, get your nursing credentials evaluated through CGFNS or an equivalent body recognized by the California Board of Registered Nursing. UCLA's hiring process moves faster when your foreign education equivalency is already confirmed and your NCLEX eligibility is in order.
Target UCLA Health Units With Specialty Shortages
UCLA Health consistently recruits for critical care, perioperative, and oncology nursing. Applying to units with persistent vacancies increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager willing to initiate sponsorship rather than waiting on a pre-approved candidate pool.
Ask Recruiters About Their LCA Filing Timeline
UCLA, as a public university employer, files Labor Condition Applications with DOL before sponsoring H-1B workers. Asking recruiters directly about their LCA process helps you gauge how far along the hiring unit is in committing to sponsorship for your role.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open UCLA Nursing Roles
Roles that include visa sponsorship aren't always labeled clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for UCLA nursing positions where sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not spending time on applications that won't lead to a visa filing.
Understand How E-3 and H-1B1 Differ at UCLA
UCLA sponsors both E-3 visas for Australian nurses and H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, alongside the standard H-1B. If you qualify for either specialty treaty visa, tell your recruiter early since processing is faster and avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
Plan Around Green Card Timing if Offered EB-2 or EB-3
UCLA has sponsored nurses through PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. If a green card is discussed during the offer stage, factor in your country's priority date backlog using the DOS Visa Bulletin so you can make an informed decision about long-term status planning.

Find Nursing at University of California Los Angeles JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of California Los Angeles sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, UCLA sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying nursing roles. As a large public university and academic medical employer, UCLA has the infrastructure to file H-1B petitions, including the required Labor Condition Application through DOL. Sponsorship is typically tied to specific clinical or research nursing positions where the role meets USCIS specialty occupation criteria.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at University of California Los Angeles?
Applications go through UCLA Health's careers portal, where nursing roles are listed by department and unit. You can also use Migrate Mate to find UCLA nursing positions that include visa sponsorship, which filters out roles unlikely to lead to a filing. Having your California RN license, CGFNS credential evaluation, and NCLEX clearance ready before applying strengthens your application significantly.
Which visa types does UCLA commonly use for nursing roles?
UCLA sponsors H-1B visas for most international nurses, but also files for H-1B1 (available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals) and E-3 visas for Australian nurses. For nurses seeking permanent residence, UCLA has used PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways. The visa type offered depends on your nationality, the specific role, and the hiring unit's timeline.
What qualifications does UCLA expect for sponsored nursing positions?
UCLA generally expects a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for sponsored roles, active California RN licensure, and clinical experience relevant to the hiring unit's specialty. For research or faculty-adjacent nursing roles, graduate credentials or specialized certifications strengthen your candidacy. Foreign-educated nurses must have their credentials evaluated and meet California Board of Registered Nursing requirements before a visa petition can proceed.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for UCLA nursing roles?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B petitions filed in the April cap season take effect October 1, meaning you'd wait up to six months from selection. H-1B1 and E-3 visas bypass the lottery and can be processed in weeks through consular processing. PERM-based green card filings take longer and vary significantly based on your country's priority date under the DOS Visa Bulletin.
