Frame your testing background around safety-critical systems
Zoox's autonomous vehicle stack demands engineers who can document test coverage for hardware-software integration, not just web or mobile QA. Tailor your resume to highlight experience with embedded systems, sensor validation, or functional safety standards like ISO 26262.
Target Zoox's simulation and validation teams directly
Zoox structures Software Quality Engineering across distinct pillars, including autonomy stack validation and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Review open roles carefully to match your specialization, since a simulation QA background will land differently than a CI/CD pipeline focus.
Confirm your visa category before the offer stage
Zoox sponsors several visa types for this role. Know which category fits your situation before your recruiter screen, because your status affects filing timelines and whether you can start immediately or need to wait for cap dates or lottery results.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline if you're on OPT
If you're on F-1 OPT, your STEM extension window and the H-1B April lottery cycle need to align. A Software Quality Engineer role at Zoox won't override USCIS cap deadlines, so map your OPT expiration against the next registration window before you interview.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Software Quality Engineer openings by visa type
Visa eligibility varies by role level and team at Zoox. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Software Quality Engineer listings filtered by the visa categories Zoox sponsors, so you apply to roles where your status is already a fit.
Ask about the LCA and prevailing wage tier during offer negotiation
For H-1B and E-3 filings, Zoox must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying your wage meets the prevailing rate for your location and level. Confirming the wage tier early prevents surprises if the offered salary needs adjustment to satisfy LCA requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineers?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineer roles. Zoox has a demonstrated record of filing sponsorship across engineering functions, and Software Quality Engineering falls within the technical roles they support. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your start date will depend on the annual lottery cycle and USCIS adjudication timelines, which typically resolve before the October 1 fiscal year start.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly sponsor for Software Quality Engineer roles?
Zoox sponsors a range of visa categories for Software Quality Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The applicable category depends on your nationality, degree, and work authorization status.
What qualifications does Zoox expect for Software Quality Engineer positions?
Zoox Software Quality Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field. Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks, hardware-software integration testing, or safety-critical validation is valued heavily. Familiarity with autonomous systems, robotics, or automotive testing environments, particularly exposure to simulation pipelines or sensor data validation, strengthens a candidacy significantly at Zoox's level of technical rigor.
How do I apply for Software Quality Engineer jobs at Zoox?
Applications go through Zoox's careers site, where roles are listed by team and location. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to browse current Software Quality Engineer openings at Zoox filtered by the visa types you're eligible for, so you're targeting roles where your sponsorship situation is already a match. Tailor your application materials to reflect experience with safety-critical systems testing, since Zoox evaluates technical depth closely at the screening stage.
How do I plan my timeline if Zoox extends a Software Quality Engineer offer and I need visa sponsorship?
Your timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT holders can often start quickly while the H-1B petition is prepared for the next cap cycle. E-3 and TN applicants can move faster since those visas aren't lottery-based. For H-1B cap cases, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start, so offer timing relative to that window matters. Confirm filing timelines with Zoox's immigration team as early as possible in the offer process.
