Frame your SWE testing experience for Google's bar
Google's SQE interviews test systems design and coding alongside quality methodology. Prepare to discuss test infrastructure at scale, not just manual QA workflows. Candidates who can speak to distributed system reliability signal the right level.
Search verified sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Filter for Software Quality Engineer openings at Google on Migrate Mate to see roles confirmed for visa sponsorship. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening job listings that don't lead to an offer with immigration support.
Align your degree field to specialty occupation requirements
USCIS requires that your degree field directly relates to the role. For SQE positions, computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field strengthens your petition. A mismatched degree, even with strong experience, can trigger an RFE.
Request premium processing if your start date is fixed
Google's recruiting timelines for engineering roles can run tight. If you're starting a role with a defined date, ask your recruiter early about premium processing through USCIS, which cuts adjudication from months to around 15 business days.
Track your H-1B registration window in early spring
USCIS opens the H-1B registration period in March each year. If Google sponsors your registration and you're not selected, ask whether cap-exempt pathways or a transfer from a prior H-1B applies to your situation.

Find Software Quality Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines given its degree requirements in computer science or a related engineering field. Google files H-1B petitions through the annual lottery registration in March, so timing your offer and registration window is an important part of the process.
How do I apply for Software Quality Engineer jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers site, where Software Quality Engineer roles are listed by team and location. Roles that include visa sponsorship are the ones worth prioritizing if you need work authorization. Migrate Mate curates verified sponsoring SQE openings at Google so you can apply directly to roles confirmed for H-1B, H-1B1, or E-3 support without filtering through listings manually.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for Software Quality Engineers?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Software Quality Engineers. The H-1B is the most common path for non-Australian, non-Chilean or Singaporean nationals. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which has no annual lottery. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1. All three categories require a qualifying degree in a relevant field and an employer-filed Labor Condition Application with the DOL.
What qualifications does Google expect for Software Quality Engineer roles?
Google's SQE roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related discipline. Beyond the degree, Google's technical bar emphasizes coding proficiency, systems design thinking, and experience building or scaling test infrastructure rather than manual QA. Candidates with backgrounds in test automation frameworks, reliability engineering, or large-scale distributed systems tend to be competitive for these positions.
How do I know if a Google SQE role will include H-1B sponsorship before I apply?
Not every job listing explicitly states whether sponsorship is available, which makes it difficult to screen at the application stage. The most reliable approach is to look for roles where Google has an established sponsorship track record for that function. Migrate Mate surfaces Software Quality Engineer openings at Google that are verified for visa sponsorship, so you can prioritize applications where immigration support is already confirmed.
