INTRODUCTION
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
The iOS Google Search App (iGA) Platform team is responsible for supporting the core app level infrastructure used to build features in Search. Team members have wide latitude to propose changes, own pieces of the app infrastructure, and drive meaningful adoption of new tooling, APIs, and systems.
As an Individual Contributor, you will drive the technical strategy to elevate the Google App on iOS. You will be responsible for comprehensively identifying and remedying unreliable quality across critical user journeys, transforming iGA into an iOS experience.
In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. In joining the Search team, you'll have an opportunity to make an impact on billions of people globally.

- 7 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 5 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools or debugging.
- Experience with iOS multiple concurrency systems (e.g., Swift Concurrency, Actors, Publishers, GCD, NSOperations) and managing complex multithreaded code.
- Experience in Swift or Objective-C, but not both, and willing to learn the other and jump around where necessary.
- Experience developing accessible technologies.

Build a portfolio around Apple platform depth
Google's iOS hiring focuses on engineers who go beyond UIKit fundamentals. Showcase projects that demonstrate proficiency in Swift concurrency, SwiftUI, and performance optimization at scale. Recruiters screening for this function respond to evidence of shipping production-quality apps.
Target teams actively building iOS-first products
Google Maps, Google Photos, and the core Google app all have dedicated iOS engineering teams. Applying directly to roles tied to these products, rather than generalist engineering pipelines, puts your application in front of hiring managers with active headcount and sponsorship budgets.
Confirm E-3 eligibility before your final interview round
If you hold Australian citizenship, Google sponsors the E-3 visa for this role. Unlike the H-1B, there's no lottery and no annual cap, so your timeline from offer to start date is significantly shorter. Raise your eligibility with your recruiter during the offer stage.
Understand how Google files your H-1B petition
For H-1B sponsorship, Google files as a cap-subject employer and registers you in the USCIS lottery each March. If selected, your petition window opens October 1. Align your job search timeline so you have an offer in hand before the February registration period.
Get your credentials evaluated before the offer stage
Google's immigration team will verify that your degree satisfies the specialty occupation standard for iOS Software Engineer roles. If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a NACES-member credential evaluation in advance so the documentation is ready when your employer files with USCIS.
Use Migrate Mate to find open iOS roles at Google
Filtering for active iOS Software Engineer openings at companies with a strong H-1B and E-3 sponsorship history saves you from applying to roles that won't support your visa. Use Migrate Mate to surface Google's current openings alongside verified sponsorship data for this function.

Find Ios Software Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for iOS Software Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for iOS Software Engineers. Because H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, Google registers eligible candidates each March through the USCIS electronic registration system. Selection is random, so candidates often pursue the E-3 or H-1B1 if they qualify by nationality, since those categories have no lottery and no annual cap.
How do I apply for iOS Software Engineer jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal at careers.google.com, where iOS roles are listed by team and location. The interview process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews covering Swift, data structures, and system design, followed by an onsite loop. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Google's open iOS Software Engineer positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility before applying.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for iOS Software Engineer roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for iOS Software Engineers. H-1B is the most common pathway for candidates from most countries. H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals and does not require lottery participation. E-3 is available to Australian citizens only and similarly bypasses the H-1B lottery, making it a faster path to a start date.
What qualifications does Google expect for iOS Software Engineer roles?
Google's iOS Software Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. On the technical side, strong proficiency in Swift is essential, along with experience building and shipping apps on the Apple platform. Familiarity with performance profiling tools, Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, and experience with large-scale codebases are differentiating factors that show up consistently in job descriptions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take after receiving a Google offer?
Timeline depends on visa type. For E-3 applicants, consular processing in Australia typically takes two to six weeks after your employer files the Labor Condition Application with the DOL, making start dates relatively predictable. For H-1B, if you're already in the U.S. on a valid status, your employment can begin October 1 of the fiscal year your petition covers. Premium processing through USCIS, which Google may elect, can reduce the adjudication window to 15 business days.
