Align Your Testing Background to Semiconductor Equipment
Applied Materials prioritizes SQE candidates with experience in hardware-software integration testing, not just pure software QA. Frame your resume around validation of embedded systems, firmware, or equipment control software to match how their teams are structured.
Target Roles in Process Control and Metrology
SQE openings at Applied Materials frequently sit within product lines like CMP, etch, or deposition equipment. Filtering by these business units when searching increases your odds of landing in a team with active headcount and a clear sponsorship precedent.
Ask Recruiters About H-1B Cap-Exempt Filing Options
Applied Materials files H-1B petitions in the annual lottery, so timing your offer relative to the April registration window matters. If you miss the cap, ask whether a cap-exempt research role or internal transfer path exists while you wait for the next cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open SQE Roles Directly
Tracking which Applied Materials SQE postings are actively open and tied to sponsorship takes time. Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, so you can focus applications on roles where sponsorship is confirmed rather than assumed.
Document Your Specialty Occupation Case Before Interviews
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions where the job title is broad. For an SQE role, gather evidence that your position requires a specific engineering degree, such as transcripts, published job descriptions requiring ECE or CS degrees, and any domain certifications in semiconductor or embedded QA.

Find Software Quality Engineer at Applied Materials JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Applied Materials sponsor H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineers?
Yes, Applied Materials sponsors H-1B visas for Software Quality Engineers. The company has a dedicated immigration program that handles petitions for engineering roles, including SQE positions in semiconductor equipment and process control. Sponsorship is subject to the annual H-1B cap and lottery, so timing your offer relative to the registration window, typically in March, affects when your status can begin.
Which visa types are commonly used for Software Quality Engineer roles at Applied Materials?
Applied Materials sponsors several visa categories for SQE roles. H-1B is the most common path for full-time hires. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions are used for recent graduates, and Applied Materials qualifies as an E-Verify employer, which is required for STEM OPT. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. For longer-term employees, the company supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications and experience does Applied Materials expect for Software Quality Engineer roles?
Applied Materials typically looks for SQE candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Hands-on experience with hardware-software integration testing, embedded systems validation, or semiconductor equipment software is valued. Familiarity with test automation frameworks, defect tracking systems, and cross-functional collaboration with hardware and firmware teams strengthens your profile for roles within their product engineering divisions.
How do I apply for Software Quality Engineer jobs at Applied Materials?
You can browse open Software Quality Engineer roles at Applied Materials directly through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm sponsorship before applying. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific product line or equipment group listed in the posting. Applied Materials' recruiting process for SQE roles typically includes a technical screening, coding or testing assessment, and multiple engineering panel interviews before an offer is extended.
How long does the sponsorship and visa filing process take for an SQE hire at Applied Materials?
For H-1B cap-subject petitions, USCIS begins accepting registrations in March and selects lottery winners before April. Standard adjudication after filing can take three to six months. Premium processing reduces USCIS review to roughly two to three weeks for an additional fee. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can start work immediately after your offer and maintain status while the H-1B petition is pending, provided your OPT authorization covers the cap-gap period.
