Construction Engineer Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction engineer job in San Jose?
Focus on sectors doing the most building in San Jose right now: transit infrastructure around the BART extension and Diridon Station, semiconductor and data center campuses in North San Jose, and high-density residential near downtown. General contractors, large civil engineering firms, and tech campus developers all hire actively here. Experience with public agency permitting through the City of San Jose and familiarity with seismic design requirements gives candidates a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire construction engineers in San Jose?
San Jose construction engineer roles are posted by EMCOR, HITT Contracting, and HDR and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The local market includes a mix of large general contractors, civil and structural engineering firms, and in-house development teams at major tech campuses and public agencies.
Are there remote construction engineer jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though most construction engineer roles require at least some on-site presence given the hands-on nature of the work. About 50% of construction engineer openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, concentrated mostly in project management, estimating, and design coordination rather than field engineering roles.
How can I get a construction engineer job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Jose is through a junior project engineer or field engineer role at a mid-size general contractor or civil engineering firm working on the city's active public infrastructure projects. San Jose Unified School District capital projects and VTA construction programs also hire assistant engineers and interns. A degree in civil or construction engineering from a Bay Area university combined with any internship on a public works project makes a candidate noticeably more competitive locally.
