Job Title: Residential Construction Superintendent - Signing Bonus
Rate: $65,000 - $85,000 + Sign-On Bonus + Project Bonus
Duration: Full Time
Experience: 5+ years Residential construction & renovation
Location: Chicago
Job Description:
Quality Builders is a Chicago general contractor. We build additions, basement dig-downs, and full gut renovations from $50K to $2M - not cookie-cutter kitchen refreshes. We need a field leader who runs tight, clean job sites, holds subs accountable, and is ready to direct crews rather than work alongside them, but also has the hands on skills to put on a tool belt and close out a punch list.
The right person communicates clearly and directly with subs, inspectors, and management, catches problems before they become expensive and takes ownership of a site without needing to be told twice. You should be comfortable holding people accountable to a schedule, keep calm under the pressure of things going wrong (they will), and be just as comfortable picking up new technology as you are reading a blueprint.
What you'll do:
- Run daily field operations across 3-4 active job sites
- Direct crews and subcontractors, holding them to schedule and spec. This is a supervision role, not a trade role, so you inspect and direct work and you don't perform it, except in genuine emergencies
- Enforce a clean, safe job site, no exceptions
- Source, vet, and onboard new subcontractors, including confirming active workers' comp coverage before they're approved to work
- Catch delays, quality issues, and change orders before they become expensive
- Oversee materials on-site, minimizing waste, reuse/recycle where possible
- File daily site reports (labor, materials, incidents) in our project management software
- Work closely with Project Management to keep timelines and budgets on track
- Build and improve our field processes; we want someone who upgrades the system, not just runs it
First 90 days: You'll have specific onboarding checkpoints at 30/60/90 days focused on transitioning fully into a supervisory rhythm — direction and inspection over hands-on execution.
What you need:
- 5+ years in residential construction or renovation
- Can read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and drawings
- Knowledge of Chicago building codes and can talk shop with subs and inspectors
- In-depth knowledge of construction processes and drive to deliver a quality product every time.
- Comfortable with project management software (BuilderTrend a plus) and Google Suite
- Experience with additions or basement dig-downs a strong plus
- Spanish fluency a plus
How we operate: Do the right thing. Speak up. 100% visibility. Be different. Embrace change.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person

Construction Superintendent Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction superintendent job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's most active hiring sectors: commercial high-rise in the Loop, transit and infrastructure projects along the lakefront corridor, and mixed-use development in neighborhoods like the West Loop and Fulton Market. General contractors and large construction management firms concentrate hiring there. Candidates with union affiliation, OSHA 30 certification, and experience coordinating subcontractors on multi-story or public-sector builds have a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire construction superintendents in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring construction superintendents in Chicago include AECOM, Path Construction, and gwo, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's market skews toward large general contractors, owner-operated construction management firms, and municipal project developers tied to the city's ongoing transit and public infrastructure programs.
Are there remote construction superintendent jobs in Chicago?
Remote construction superintendent roles are rare by nature because the position requires daily on-site presence to manage crews, inspect work, and coordinate subcontractors. About 0% of construction superintendent openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cover pre-construction planning, scheduling, or owner-representative oversight rather than active field supervision.
How can I get a construction superintendent job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is starting as an assistant superintendent or field engineer with a mid-size general contractor working on commercial tenant improvement or renovation projects in areas like the West Loop or South Loop. Chicago's active union apprenticeship programs through the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters and local ironworker and laborer locals also provide a structured route into field leadership roles for candidates without a four-year construction management degree.
Which industries hire the most construction superintendents in Chicago?
Chicago construction superintendent roles concentrate in Construction & Real Estate and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's sustained pipeline of transit expansion, lakefront infrastructure, and downtown commercial redevelopment keeps demand steady across those sectors well beyond typical market cycles.
