Job purpose / summary / objective
Ensures all work is carried out in a safe and orderly manner. Complies with protocols and documentation related to OSHA and food safety. Will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated material handling and greenhouse equipment. You will use preventive and predictive maintenance processes, and rapidly troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and quickly restore equipment to service to support the successful operation of the facility. You will work with other technicians to solve problems, validate quality of work, optimize material handling equipment, software, and systems. You will collaborate with the Facility Manager and other technicians to perform Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures. You may also assist in training other maintenance technicians and technician trainees to enhance their technical skills and job knowledge.
General Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of general maintenance processes and methods
- Conduct maintenance and troubleshooting of some industrial robots.
- Ability to properly document Work Orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used)
- Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers, and small hand tools.
- Must understand basic electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic systems.
- Willingness to develop and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Follow appropriate safety procedures and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), and ensure a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards.
- Operate company vehicles to complete maintenance activities on the exterior of the facility and within the truck yard, as well as travel to nearby facilities and local stores to procure parts and supplies.
- Performs all duties in compliance with plant rules and practices safety, conduct, sanitation, and good housekeeping.
- Capable of working at heights from ladders, and scaffolding in a safe manner.
- Capable of operating Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) (fork truck, aerial lift, etc.) Willing to be certified through Bright Farms Training
- Must be able to work overtime if required.
- Work efficiently and effectively with supervision in a team environment.
- Familiar with basic machine shop equipment (ex: lathes and mills).
Duties/Responsibilities
- Repairs or replaces defective electrical, plumbing, or mechanical components.
- Maintain and troubleshoot all electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) on site, including conveyor systems, packaging equipment, palletizers, etc.
- Disassembles, replaces, or repairs mechanical and electrical components.
- Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, encoders, etc.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, software, and Programmable Logic Controls
- Provide technical assistance when problems are encountered.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of electrical control systems and equipment.
- Maintain electrical, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
- Know and understand method and sequence of operations for troubleshooting and testing equipment.
- Familiar with basic wiring diagrams, symbols, blueprints, and electrical measuring
- Ability to troubleshoot basic Input/Output functions Preventive/predictive maintenance procedures.
- Familiar with industrial controls, electronics, conveyance, systems, and pneumatic.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- 3-5 years of trade school, or equivalent military/work experience
- Ability to work any shift, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Climb steps.
- Lift 50 pounds and maintain balance.
- Ability to perform duties in extreme varying temperatures.
- Crawl over, under and into equipment within company LOTO procedures as necessary to perform job duties.
- Work from ladders and lifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical or industrial field.
- Food or agriculture industry experience
- Understanding of advanced industrial electrical systems, including DC voltage and AC voltage from 24V to 480V.

Working conditions / Environment / Travel / Schedule required
Greenhouse/Outside/Coolers/Office. Maintenance will have exposure to seasonal conditions which may range from extreme heat and humidity in the summer to cold in the winter. Work near moving mechanical parts including in the vicinity of occasional high noise environments is required.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, employees are expected to sometimes use hands to finger, handle or feel. Frequently standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. The lifting requirements to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. The employee should have clear correctable vision at close and distance range, as well as peripheral vision to notice safety hazards.
