Controls Technician Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a controls technician job in Tampa?
Focus your search on Tampa's manufacturing plants along the US-301 corridor, the Port of Tampa Bay's industrial operations, and the commercial construction and facilities management firms in Westshore and downtown. Candidates with PLC programming experience and hands-on fieldwork with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Honeywell systems have a clear edge here. Showing familiarity with Tampa's dominant sectors, including phosphate processing, utilities, and large-scale HVAC, strengthens your application considerably.
Which companies hire controls technicians in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring controls technicians in Tampa include Jobot, Johnson Controls, and TGW Systems, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tampa's hiring mix leans toward industrial manufacturers, water and wastewater utilities, port operations, and commercial building automation contractors serving the region's rapid development.
Are there remote controls technician jobs in Tampa?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the role. Controls technician work is largely hands-on and site-dependent, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of controls technician openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to concentrate in remote monitoring, SCADA oversight, and technical support functions rather than installation or commissioning work.
How can I get a controls technician job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is through an apprenticeship or entry-level technician role with one of the industrial maintenance contractors or building automation firms serving Hillsborough County's commercial construction boom. Community college programs at Hillsborough Community College provide hands-on PLC and electrical fundamentals that local employers recognize. Applying for maintenance technician or field service assistant roles at Tampa-area manufacturing plants gives you the floor-level exposure that leads to full controls positions.
Which industries hire the most controls technicians in Tampa?
The sectors hiring the most controls technicians in Tampa are Manufacturing and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tampa's port activity, active utility infrastructure, and rapid commercial and residential construction have made these sectors the steadiest sources of local controls technician demand.
