Job Overview
Help high school students navigate academic, social, and emotional challenges as a High School Counselor. You’ll provide guidance counseling, academic advising, and individual and group counseling while partnering with families, educators, and other professionals to support each student’s development. Your work will draw on knowledge of adolescent development, behavioral health, and cultural diversity.
Duties
- Provide academic advising and guidance counseling, including support with standardized testing and educational planning.
- Offer mental health counseling and student behavioral guidance; use conflict management and behavior management strategies to address concerns.
- Communicate with parents and collaborate with school staff, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate student support.
- Apply knowledge of special education, school policies, legal requirements, and educational compliance and regulations when supporting students.
- Handle confidential information responsibly and follow appropriate procedures when concerns involve child welfare or child protective services. Your impact: Timely, coordinated support helps students and families access guidance that can strengthen well-being and progress at school.
Experience
- Experience working with children and students, including adolescents; classroom, teaching, or childcare experience is helpful.
- Strong communication skills and experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds; cultural diversity counseling experience is valued.
- Knowledge of childhood development, school policy, and school legal requirements.
- Background in social work, behavioral health, or mental health counseling is helpful. Christian counseling experience may be relevant where appropriate to the school setting.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with students, families, and professionals.
Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
