Get Access To All JobsSenior Microsoft Fabric Engineer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in data engineering, cloud computing, or enterprise data architecture and your DSO confirms the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Senior Fabric Engineer roles typically involve data pipeline design, lakehouse implementation, and analytics engineering, all of which map cleanly to graduate programs in computer science, information systems, and data science.
Can I do CPT for a Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer role while completing my final semester?
CPT is available throughout your program, including your final semester, as long as you remain enrolled full-time and your DSO approves the authorization before your start date. Many students in their last semester use CPT for senior-level roles that then convert to full-time offers under OPT. Your DSO issues an updated I-20 with the authorization, and the job must begin on or after that date.
What SOC code applies to Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer positions?
Most Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer roles are classified under SOC 15-1243, Database Architects, or SOC 15-1244, Network and Computer Systems Administrators, depending on how the employer structures the role. Some postings fall under SOC 15-1252, Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, if the position emphasizes custom pipeline development. Check the O*NET profile for each code to confirm the best fit before discussing it with your DSO.
How do I find Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer employers who are comfortable with CPT students?
Migrate Mate filters job listings for employers with Labor Condition Application filing history, which signals experience working with international students on work authorization. Targeting companies that have filed LCAs for data engineering roles reduces the risk of encountering employers who are unfamiliar with CPT or unwilling to accommodate the DSO authorization timeline.
Does part-time CPT affect my eligibility for STEM OPT after graduation?
Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, does not affect your OPT eligibility regardless of how long it runs. Only full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more uses up your OPT eligibility. Since Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer roles are typically full-time, confirm with your DSO whether the position is being authorized as part-time or full-time CPT before your start date, because the classification affects your post-graduation options.
