Get Access To All JobsOperational Excellence Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Operational Excellence Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
It can qualify if your school's curriculum includes courses in operations management, industrial engineering, process improvement, or a related discipline. Your DSO evaluates whether the role is an integral part of your program, not just related to your major. A position focused on Lean, Six Sigma, or cross-functional process projects typically meets that standard, but you'll need documented coursework to support the authorization request.
What documents do I need to get my DSO to authorize CPT for this role?
You'll need an offer letter or internship agreement from the employer that includes your start date, end date, work location, and a description of your responsibilities. Some DSOs also require a faculty advisor signature confirming the curricular connection. Gather these before scheduling your DSO appointment, since missing any one item restarts the clock on authorization.
Can I do full-time CPT as an Operational Excellence Manager without affecting my OPT eligibility?
You can, but one full academic year of full-time CPT exhausts your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, has no impact on OPT regardless of duration. If you plan to use OPT for full-time employment after graduation, structure your CPT as part-time or limit full-time CPT to less than 12 months across your program.
How do I find Operational Excellence Manager internships that accept CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to find employers in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and consulting who have hired F-1 students in operations roles. Narrowing your search to E-Verify enrolled companies removes one common barrier, since CPT employers are legally required to verify work authorization. Roles listed as process improvement analyst, continuous improvement manager, or operations project manager often have identical responsibilities and CPT eligibility.
What SOC code applies to Operational Excellence Manager roles for wage and sponsorship purposes?
Most Operational Excellence Manager positions fall under SOC 11-1021 (General and Operations Managers) or SOC 13-1111 (Management Analysts), depending on whether the role is primarily managerial or analytical. Check the O*NET occupation profile for each code to confirm which better matches your job description. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level your employer must meet if they later file an LCA for H-1B sponsorship.
