Get Access To All JobsDirector Of Program Management CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Program Management role qualify for CPT?
It can, but your school must confirm the role is an integral part of your curriculum, not just a related job. Graduate programs in business administration, systems engineering, or technology management typically support CPT for program management roles when the job description maps to specific courses or thesis requirements. Work with your DSO to document the curricular connection explicitly before applying.
Can I work full-time as a Director of Program Management on CPT?
Full-time CPT (20 or more hours per week) is permitted, but using 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Since Director of Program Management roles typically require full-time commitment, you should weigh the OPT trade-off carefully with your DSO before accepting. Part-time CPT under 20 hours per week does not affect OPT eligibility.
How do I find employers who will hire F-1 CPT students for program management director roles?
Browse Director of Program Management positions on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with LCA filing history for program management roles. Employers who've previously sponsored work visas for similar positions are more familiar with employment authorization documentation and less likely to withdraw offers when CPT paperwork enters the conversation.
What documents does my employer need from me to onboard me on CPT?
Your employer's HR team needs your CPT-authorized I-20, which lists your employer name, start date, and authorized work hours. They'll also collect your passport, visa stamp, and I-94 for Form I-9 completion. Some employers registered with E-Verify will run your documents through the E-Verify system as part of onboarding, which is standard and does not affect your CPT status.
Can a Director of Program Management CPT role lead to H-1B sponsorship after graduation?
CPT itself has no direct path to H-1B visa, but strong performance in a CPT role can position you for an H-1B petition from the same employer after graduation. You'd typically bridge through OPT first, then the employer files an H-1B petition before your OPT expires. Director-level roles frequently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, which satisfies a core H-1B visa requirement.
