JOB DESCRIPTION
You must be enrolled in an AAS in Mechatronics, Robotics, Engineering Technology, or related 2 year field of study program! ID1 Expansion is looking for enthusiastic interns to join our state-of-the-art research and development fabrication facility. As one of the most advanced fabs globally, we specialize in various process areas including Wet Etch, Dry Etch, Diffusion, Photolithography, Metrology, RDA, PCVD, CMP, Implantation, and Probe. As a Fab Equipment Maintenance Technician Intern, you will gain a basic knowledge of the semiconductor fabrication process. Interns will be exposed to new technology and the equipment we use in the clean room environment to manufacture the world’s leading memory solutions! Interns receive on-the-job training that includes safety and cleanroom protocol, preventative and corrective maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and our ongoing improvement programs. With knowledge gained, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional sub-teams to evaluate methods to optimize the efficiency of equipment maintenance and repairs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Complete required safety training and conduct all work in accordance with safety policies.
- On the job training for preventative and corrective maintenance on semiconductor equipment.
- Receive training and participate in area continuous improvement programs.
- Partner with operations technicians and shift engineers/technicians to complete daily priorities that improve learning cycles.
- Provide troubleshooting support for equipment-related problems and address root causes.
- Improve equipment availability by investigating chronic tool problems and finding solutions.
- Maintain documentation on tool status, including observations and work performed.
- Perform and facilitate audits and submit good catches on safety and quality issues.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in an AAS in Mechatronics, Robotics, Engineering Technology, or related field of study.
- Encouraged completion of degree between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Relocating to Boise, Idaho to complete a 3-month internship.
- Must be willing to relocate to Boise if offered a full time role after internship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Students enrolled in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Instrumentation, Automation programs.
- Mechanical proficiency with the ability to understand and troubleshoot mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of AC/DC circuits and basic fundamentals of electricity.
- Intermediate PC skills.
- Using Artificial Intelligence.
INTERNSHIP INFORMATION:
- Onsite Paid Internship.
- Relocation support is available.
- Housing is subsidized.
- Traveling costs are covered for your travel onsite.
- 12 hr shifts.

Does an Equipment Technician role qualify for CPT authorization?
It qualifies if the duties directly connect to your degree program and your school considers it an integral part of your curriculum. Engineering technology, applied sciences, and similar programs typically satisfy this requirement. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring the job description to your authorization meeting and be ready to explain how the role extends your coursework into a professional setting.
Can I do CPT as an Equipment Technician at a small manufacturer or a startup lab?
Yes, employer size doesn't affect CPT eligibility, but smaller employers often lack internal HR processes for F-1 work authorization. Confirm the employer is enrolled in E-Verify, can provide a written training agreement, and understands that your authorization is tied to the specific role and employer listed on your I-20. A change in employer or duties requires a new DSO authorization before you start.
What happens to my CPT if my Equipment Technician duties change mid-assignment?
CPT is authorized for the specific role and employer your DSO approved. If your duties shift significantly, such as moving from calibration work to field service or a different department, you need to return to your DSO and request updated authorization before performing the new duties. Continuing unauthorized work, even with the same employer, puts your F-1 status at risk.
