The Department of Communication at the University of Evansville (UE) invites applications for a full-time, 10-month Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication with a specialization in Sports Communication, beginning August 2026.
We are seeking a forward-thinking educator and scholar to join our undergraduate faculty. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching the next generation of sports media professionals while exploring the transformative roles of strategic communication and generative AI in the modern media landscape. Key Responsibilities
The Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor will balance instructional excellence with scholarly contributions and department service. Your main duties will include:
- Instructional Excellence: Teach 18–21 credit hours per academic year (3–4 courses per semester), including courses in Sports Communication, Sports Writing, Strategic Communication, Media Ethics, and Communication Theory.
- Curriculum Innovation: Develop curriculum that reflects the evolving landscape of sports media, specifically integrating media strategy, media literacy, and generative AI.
- Scholarly Activity: Conduct and publish original research in the fields of sports or strategic communication.
- Student Mentorship: Serve as an academic advisor, mentor students, and supervise undergraduate projects.
- Service & Outreach: Participate in department/university service, contribute to student recruitment/retention, and foster relationships with media industries and community partners.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Ph.D. in Sports Communication (preferred), Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, or a closely related field. Note: ABD candidates nearing completion will be considered.
- Teaching Experience: Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level.
- Research Potential: A strong research agenda with the potential for peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge of sports and strategic communication with a focus on emerging media and technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry Experience: Professional background in news, public relations, or strategic communication is highly valued.
