Data Analyst Intern Jobs in New Mexico: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analyst intern in New Mexico?
The most direct path is enrollment in a quantitative degree program at a New Mexico institution such as the University of New Mexico or New Mexico State University, both of which offer statistics, computer science, and information systems programs that align closely with what local employers request. No state-issued license is required for this role. Building a portfolio of projects using publicly available New Mexico government or energy datasets and applying through university career centers significantly strengthens candidacy with the state's research and defense-oriented employers.
Which companies hire data analyst interns in New Mexico?
Companies currently hiring data analyst interns in New Mexico include State of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, and Albertsons, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Mexico's concentration of federally funded research institutions and defense contractors means many internship openings carry security clearance eligibility as a preferred qualification.
Which New Mexico cities have the most data analyst intern jobs?
Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos have the most data analyst intern openings in New Mexico. Albuquerque dominates because it is home to Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base, Presbyterian Healthcare Services, and the University of New Mexico, all of which run active internship programs, while Santa Fe's state government agencies and Las Cruces's proximity to New Mexico State University and White Sands Missile Range support steady but smaller pipelines.
Are there remote data analyst intern jobs in New Mexico?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data analyst intern work is largely desk-based and output is easily shared digitally. About 30% of data analyst intern openings tied to New Mexico are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's analytical and computer-based nature. The tasks most commonly performed remotely include dashboard maintenance, report generation, and data cleaning, while on-site arrangements tend to apply when internships involve classified data environments or federal contractor security requirements.
How can I get hired as a data analyst intern in New Mexico with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to undergraduate research assistant roles through the University of New Mexico's Office of Research or New Mexico State University's research departments, which regularly place students with no prior industry experience into data-adjacent projects. Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory both run structured student internship programs open to early-stage undergraduates. Building a portfolio using New Mexico's open government data sets and earning a foundational certification in a tool like Tableau or Power BI gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants without work history.
Where can I find and apply to data analyst intern jobs in New Mexico?
You can find and apply to data analyst intern jobs in New Mexico on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings to find roles that match your skills and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No profile creation is needed to view or apply to openings.
